I stopped by the shelter today and learned that the bunny that I had fostered not too long ago has picked up the habit of peeing on the cats that are located beneath her. One of the cats is now deathly afraid of rabbits.

As impressive as this feat is, I have to wonder. How do you discourage this kind of behavior?

Why on earth was the bunny located over cats? Are they just stacking all the animals up in wire cages??

I don’t see how this could even be a thing. I don’t think the bunny needs “discouraging”, I think the shelter needs to address how their animals are being housed…

Sorry but after all the awfulness with this shelter breaking up the bonded trio I’m really questioning whether this is a shelter at all.

Because of Spaghetti’s history, I requested that she get put in a larger cage so she is less defensive with the caretakers at the shelter. Unfortunately this put her in the one of the cat rooms. She doesn’t have a wire cage either.

This shelter is an absolute joke. Putting a rabbit in a room full of predatory animals? Are they completely stupid?

Clearly I’m doing a bad job of describing the layout of the room. Spaghetti is perfectly safe, most of the cats can’t even see her. The cage is similar to the kinds that cats get put in at Petco or Petsmart.

How is she able to pee on the cats if the floor is solid?

Maybe she is waiting until the cats are being taken out of their cage? I was only told that she was peeing on the cats not how.

I would figure out how shes peeing on them. Is she launching her pee? Is the pee dripping off the edges? How can she see the cats but the cats cant see her?

Assuming we can find out how she is peeing on the cats, how do we discourage her from peeing on them?

If she is launching pee through bars when she sees the cats, block her viewing space. If pee is dripping from the sides, a proper litter box that is cleaned often. Move her to a different room without cats.

I’ll pass this along to the shelter
