It started about two weeks ago when I had to go out of town and dropped my bunnies off at my vets office where they do bunny sitting. I was gone for about 4 days and when i picked them up the vet said they did great but i noticed both bunnies had a lot of hair falling out (i figgured maybe from stress). I brushed them both over the next few days but i started noticing their poops were stuck together by hair. I wasn’t sure which bunny it was from so now they are seperated as I try to monitor which one its coming from.

I have cut out their pellets for the past 3 days and only have been giving them timothy hay and water. I notice some poops are still stuck together, some look wetter than normal and some are small and very dry. I just gave them about half the amount of pellets they normally get thinking it may help because they eat their hay and drink water like normal. They seem to be acting normal except for their poop and I’m worried they may get GI stasis.

Sorry for the long post…any thoughts?!

Sounds like they’re going through a molt, which is high shed periods for rabbits. When a rabbit is molting, you’ll need to groom off as much excess fur as possible at least once a day to reduce how much the rabbit eats. If it eats too much, the fur will clog them up, resulting in discomfort and potential blockage. The small poos can be indicative that it’s getting bad, so definitely encourage water and hay consumption, and beginning grooming. Every day.

Thanks Wick, I have been grooming them since I got them back from the vet. I will keep my eye out and make sure they are getting enough hay and water.

Update on Almond…took him to vet and they gave me some Oxbow Critical Care to feed him. His poops have gone back to normal size, they are just lighter than usual and also not as much. He is eating hay but still no pellets and only a little water….he is eating his litter alot more than usual it seems like. He is acting normal other than that. I syringe feed him the Critical care food as well as a crushed papaya tablet. He is not much of a fruit/veggy eater but he nibbled on some lettuce yesterday.
Luckily Joy is back to normal. Just worried about Almond now :/
