So with all that’s currently going on with Boonie (see other post)
I’m wondering if I should start putting socks on her feet to protect them.
I believe the current posture she’s adopted is causing her to have these little swellings on her feet, mainly the front ones.
She is free range in the house so I can’t really change all the carpet for her and it never used to be a problem but she stands funny now and doesn’t give her feet a break by laying down.
I don’t want these swellings to end up being open sores.
I was thinking of buying baby socks and using them. But I wonder if she’d just try to pull them off constantly
        Has anyone tried this?
Especially on the front paws, I don’t think she could get the back ones off currently

If she is never lying down, there has to be something wrong. I would get her to a vet. The only time my rabbit stopped lying down was the last month and a half of her life and there was something terribly wrong.

Someone else will see this and probably give you a more detailed answer. But I think it would be like you or me never lying down or even sitting and always standing. We could never really rest comfortably or even sleep. It could only lead to more problems.

          And I’m sorry…what other post?

Okay, I remember reading the thread now. I found it. I remember being very curious because of what you described. I wanted to see what everyone said and what you found out. At the end of our little girl’s life, there were no conclusive answers as to what was wrong. But she quit lying down, always stood, not looking comfortable. She still ate and drank up until the end. She first quit eating her orchard grass, then she eventually eliminated her pellets, then began selectively eliminating her greens one at a time. She never looked comfortable but she continued to want her food that she liked and she wanted affection and gave some back. And just like you said the pads at the base of her claws began to swell. Her poop became such that we had to begin cleaning her regularly (obviously due to inappropriate diet). She began to enjoy her butt cleanings as well. And very close to the end she began to have inflamed hocks on her hind feet and would stand a little crooked. We watched her closely at the end trying to determine when she was ready to be put down. She didn’t grind her teeth in pain and still wanted affection to the very last minute. We still don’t know if we waited too long but all this is kind of beside the point now. It seems the only thing that anyone had come up with regarding your rabbit was possible EC.

So you said you have started the EC treatment? Or you are going to?

I am really curious as to the final diagnosis as well. Because we never got an answer regarding what was wrong with Icey.

I really don’t know if the socks will help. We had really thick soft plushy layers for her to stand on but her pads still swelled and her hocks still became inflamed. More than friction I think it’s the constant pressure on those areas. Kind of like bed sores. Until she can lie down I don’t know that will improve. But I am so much a novice in all of this and because we never got a definitive answer or diagnosis I feel like I don’t know anything about anything. You obviously already know something is very wrong.

Hopefully someone else has more to offer. Sorry for your predicament.

People sometimes use memory foam bath mats for buns with sore hocks. Maybe it would work for this to? Or would that be too cushy?

Well for now all I can say is that they haven’t gotten worse so that’s a good thing
I’ll see what the vet says on Thursday

I see what ur saying about the constant pressure thing. When I hold her I can feel how strongly she’s pushing her feet down, cos she pushing them into me quite hard.

My poor little girl, I wish she would lie down

As far as I know there is probably something wrong with her back
I’m not too sure about the whole EC thing

That is terrible. I’ll be following this closely now. I so remember all of that. Heartbreaking. Why oh why could she not get comfortable and lie down. I’ll never ever understand. Scrunchy yet gentle hugs to {{{Boonie}}}.

I’ve been giving her regular cuddle sessions, which consists of me holding her for about an hour at a time. She falls asleep fairly quickly when I do this so I figure she must be tired having to keep herself standing all the time. If I can give her at least an hour of relief each day where she gets a good sleep in, I figure that’s gotta be a good thing

Currently she’s actually laying on top of her rabbit bf ? I think she’s using him as a support haha

                      Yes, an hour of relief has to be such a welcomed blessing for her. And if she is lying on top of her rabbit bf, no doubt she is finding the most comfortable position she can. Poor {{{Boonie}}}
