Okay, I remember reading the thread now. I found it. I remember being very curious because of what you described. I wanted to see what everyone said and what you found out. At the end of our little girl’s life, there were no conclusive answers as to what was wrong. But she quit lying down, always stood, not looking comfortable. She still ate and drank up until the end. She first quit eating her orchard grass, then she eventually eliminated her pellets, then began selectively eliminating her greens one at a time. She never looked comfortable but she continued to want her food that she liked and she wanted affection and gave some back. And just like you said the pads at the base of her claws began to swell. Her poop became such that we had to begin cleaning her regularly (obviously due to inappropriate diet). She began to enjoy her butt cleanings as well. And very close to the end she began to have inflamed hocks on her hind feet and would stand a little crooked. We watched her closely at the end trying to determine when she was ready to be put down. She didn’t grind her teeth in pain and still wanted affection to the very last minute. We still don’t know if we waited too long but all this is kind of beside the point now. It seems the only thing that anyone had come up with regarding your rabbit was possible EC.
So you said you have started the EC treatment? Or you are going to?
I am really curious as to the final diagnosis as well. Because we never got an answer regarding what was wrong with Icey.
I really don’t know if the socks will help. We had really thick soft plushy layers for her to stand on but her pads still swelled and her hocks still became inflamed. More than friction I think it’s the constant pressure on those areas. Kind of like bed sores. Until she can lie down I don’t know that will improve. But I am so much a novice in all of this and because we never got a definitive answer or diagnosis I feel like I don’t know anything about anything. You obviously already know something is very wrong.
Hopefully someone else has more to offer. Sorry for your predicament.
