Moulting season is upon us and with it comes more Olaf problems. I’ve been grooming him constantly but he always seems to get a few bouts of discomfort this time of year. When I came home for lunch he was flopped in his litter box which is always a bad sign. He’s a very tidy bun and usually only spends as much time in there as he needs to nibble hay and get the job done.

He wouldn’t accept any veg or treats and didn’t care if I petted him (which is unlike his usual bossy self). Usually it passes within a few hours so if he’s better tonight I’ll be very pleased. Otherwise it’s time for medication and a vet visit tomorrow morning. I have baby gas drops and the motility medicine I was prescribed last time. Fingers crossed he’s just a little uncomfortable and not in need of serious medical care or sub-q fluids.

I left greens, hay, and water by his side so he won’t have to go far to eat or drink if he feels up to it while I keep an eye on him. I also struggle trying to explain this to non-bunny people. “He looks fine to me” or the crazy looks you get when you mention your rabbit is sick. It is a very lonely journey to try and care for a pet when others around you don’t understand.

Thanks for letting me rant. Gah. <3.

Hoping he starts eating ASAP. Jenny is off her food too, though for different resons, so she is also sat with a load of scrummy vey under her nose. So far, she has nibbled the edge of the rare treat of carrot and no more, and ate a few mouthfuls of anthor treat food, black kale. Jenny’l be getting gas drops in the morning if the food isn’t at least mostly gone. Eating vibes for Olaf x

Thank you for the kind words. Certainly thinking of her (and you) and hoping she perks up for supper soon. So hard to watch them struggle or be uncomfortable. They’re such sensitive animals, physically and emotionally, and it breaks my heart when he’s not himself. Rooting for Jenny and Olaf tonight. <3.

Totally understand how lonely it is and the crazy looks that come with being a rabbit owner. I’m not sure why people think that just because they are uncommon pets that they are somehow…less “important”. At least that is how people act toward me. When I had surgery and was going to be out of work, my boss made a comment along the lines of “and make sure to take care of yourself and stop worrying about that damn rabbit”. I was super upset that someone would say that to me. People just don’t see them as being a companion, and it really is sad because they’re the best <3

Olaf <3 <3 <3 I love seeing his little black snoot on instagram. I hope this passes and he's his normal sassy, bossy self by tonight.

Thank you, n00b and A&B! I really appreciate it. Yes, so frustrating when people assume they’re just critters that we feed and not the actual loves of our lives.

He was in his loft for a bit and then settled on the first floor. No interest in greens but did nibble on some hay I offered. Not doing any uncomfortable flopping but he does seem hunched so we’ll see how the medicine goes. Hoping to get some hydration in him.

I’m just seeing this now. How is Olaf doing now?

(And Jenny, in case you see this G.J).

Yes, it is scary and lonely to have a poorly bun.

Thanks Bam! We had a rough night but he’s on the mend. Had to use meds and some critical care to get something into him. He didn’t move for a few hours and when he finally did there were teeny, tiny poops left that were hard and dry. Tried to get him moving a little to see if activity would help and by this afternoon he was accepting veg and hay again. I’m still in monitor mode but his personality has perked up and he’s bossing me around again.

Hoping Jenny is feeling better, too. Much appreciated.

Oh, no! Olaf is way too cute to be sick!!! I hope he’s back to his normal, adorable self today.

Awe, thank you LPT! He was a little mopey this morning but back to his usual self now! Phew.
