I know I shouldn’t have done this but why did Thumper attack Harley when I briefly put Storm in their room? Storm was in there for all of 10 seconds before the scuffle broke out. No damage was done and no fur was pulled.

I can understand them attacking Storm but why are they fighting with each other?

Does it sound like pre-bonding in the future will break Harley and Thumper’s bond?

A new bunny changes an entire dynamic. They fought because they were fixing their hierarchy to fit the new smell.

Adding a third often breaks the original bond. It will be up to them if they bond as a trio, go back to a double, or refuse to bond ever again and want to stay single. But, since they are fighting that easily, youll want to split them before adding Storm to the prebonding loop.

I was under the impression that a baby bunny wouldn’t be releasing the hormones that would cause a bonded pair to fight. Is that not the case?

It’s very common for a new bunny to break an existing bunnies bond.

Even if a new baby isn’t hormonal, it still smells like a strange bunny in their territory.

It does sound like prebonding will break their bond if just her being in the room makes them fight. You will probably need to split them up and prebond all 3 separately.

I had to split up Luna and Atlas when I brought Nimbus home, but now they’re all happy together

Storm most likely won’t be spayed for another 3 months, should I split Harley and Thumper when Storm get’s spayed and prebonding starts or should I split them up before the spay?

I wouldn’t split them unless there are obvious problems. So as long as they’re fine now without Storm in the room, it seems cruel to split them up.

But if you notice a general deterioration in their relationship, if there’s more nipping or one seems scared of the other, you definitely need to split them up. So keep a close eye on them, but if they can continue as they were, I wouldn’t split them until you want to start prebonding.

I wouldnt split them that early, but it does sound like theyll need to be split when it is time for prebonding in the same room. Reason being, the more they fight with the new bunny smell around, the less likely they will bond back together and less likely either of them will bond with the new bun.
