One of my rabbits was lying down completely with the head of my other rabbit underneath his belly.is this normal behaviour or should i worry. They are completely bonded and I have never seen them fight. They groom amd cuddle all the time, but this is the first time I have ever seen rabbits do this. Will the rabbit be able to breath??

Some pairs do that, but again, I still think you’re playing with fire. Can you build a cage for your bun, away from your family’s business bunnies? You think they are bonded, but just because they aren’t aggressive when you’re around doesn’t mean they never will be. Again, I’m just trying to look out for your bunny’s best interest. I know you want to do right by your bunny and give him a friend, but while they aren’t fixed it is very dangerous to keep them together.

What is the nature of your rabbit’s relationship? Did you just get them? Bonding is something that is a process and must be done to have a “true” relationship. Just because they seem like they are getting along doesn’t make them bonded. How long have you had them?

Lots of bonded pairs lay over each other. And surely, if one rabbit was having difficulty breathing it would move. Survival instinct.

My two do this. Bombur will want to cuddle so badly when Blue really doesnt want to, that Bombur will push his way under Blue. Often, it ends with Bombur’s head under Blue’s tummy while Blue is eating/loafing/whatever he was doing with the rest of Bombur’s body awkwardly poking out. Sometimes theyll stay like this through an entire 30 minute nap, and yes, Bombur can breathe

I did manage to separate the males from the female, but further separation wont work. The most I am able to do is keep the Male and the females apart, especially since there is a new group of bunnies coming.

I kept a camera inside to see how they behave, and they never fight. I know things could suddenly change. But then again, I cant keep them all separate, since I dont have the money to buy cages. I just put up a piece of wood midway through the big cage to keep the opposite genders apart.

Thank you for you reply. Guess I was just being paranoid. They pretty much eat cuddle and sleep their days away. I have never seen them play, isnt that weird.

The bonded pair we have does this all the time. Here is a picture i luckily caught a couple months back.

However, i highly recommend separating them. Like A&B have said, and i’m sure BunNoob and Mikey as well before, just because they haven’t fought now doesn’t mean they never will. Bunnies are super territorial and will fight to the death in some cases.

I had a friend who let out her two unbonded bunnies for floor time and looked away for maybe five minutes, came back to blood and fur everywhere. I wont go into detail, but the male was severely hurt.  It happened in just a minute or two, its so dangerous. They were both sweet bunnies, and to each other before, but one wrong move and someone gets hurt. She never got them to get along again.

Why are you getting more bunnies when you can’t afford to provide proper housing for the ones you already have?

Why are you getting another “group” of rabbits if you have several already living in one shared cage? How many rabbits do you currently have??

I meant just keep your bunny separate from all the other bunnies. The other bunnies aren’t pets. They’re for consumption. Which is why I asked if you could build a cage for your bunny separately. Even something as simple as NIC grids can work and for only $30. I’m not trying to sound rude but if you’re keeping it as a pet, it needs to have better conditions than the rest, or it really is no different than the rest.

Im very confused as meat rabbit talk isnt allowed on this forum. We cant help you if youre just using these rabbits as food. This is a pet forum only. You can ask for help about your pet rabbits, but we cannot help you with your meat rabbits.

From what I remember, Kudou has his pet rabbit(s?) and then his family has meat rabbits. It seems like the pet rabbit(s) might be housed with the meat rabbits.

Question for the forum leaders: Looking for assistance for meat rabbits is obviously not allowed, but is it against forum rules to acknowledge that you have meat rabbits?

They rescued one of the meat rabbits because it was doing poorly, and they had been housing it inside, but their parents moved the bunny back outside.

Since we are familiar with Kudou’s situation, and we love the fact that they have saved a meat rabbit, this will be allowed for now. Will consult with forum admin (Binky Bunny), of course. The questions Kudou poses concern their own pet rabbits. The buns are currently housed outside as decided by Kudou’s parents. They are in a warm country. You can find earlier posts by Kudou by clicking on their username underneath the avatar.
