So earlier I was sitting with Onyx, and him being not completely litter trained, I had him sitting on an old piece of clothing i don’t care about.

We were having our usual morning chat, he was helping me do my makeup and get ready for the day lol

Then I see him lift his tail, and he burrows a bit which isnt usual for him, and then he pees a bit. It wasnt clear, sort of milky? I wasnt sure what this means, so any advice is appreciated!!

Recently, I started giving him alfalfa hay and young bunny pellets to help him gain weight, him being about a pound or so lighter than he should be. Could this be the cause?

I’ll be uploading a picture of it soon!

Cloudy bunny urine is normal. Rabbits expel calcium via the urine, unlike most other mammals. When the cloudy pee dries, there’s a chalky residue. Here is some good Medirabbit info with pix, about how normal pee can look and how bladder sludge looks: http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/Uro_gen_diseases/generalities/Sludge.htm

Alfalfa has more calcium than grass hay. But all rabbits pee cloudy from time to time.

Milky pee means too much calcium, probably from the alfalfa. What about supplementing his normal diet with Critical Care in the morning and at night? You don’t have to force feed it, just mix it up in a dish and leave it for him to eat throughout the day

If there’s chalky pee every day, and he’s an adult rabbit, I’d try with what A&B suggests, critical care. Not all buns will eat it from a plate though, but many buns will if you mix it with something the bunny likes. Canned plain pumpkin, baby fruit smoothie, unsweetened apple sauce etc. The Critical Care apple-banana is much more popular with my bun than the “original” flavor is.

The apple-banana flavor is the way to go. Bombur loves it, especially if you mix in a little bit of the banana baby food. Little man goes mental for it. We’ve had some GI episodes in the past, so Bombur’s a pro with CC.

That’s a great idea! I’ve been meaning to get some Critical Care anyway, just as a precaution (I’m trying to put together a bunny first aid kit with some of my spare money), so ill definitely be getting the apple-banana flavor! I have a hunch Onyx wouldn’t dare touch the original, he has a crazy sweet tooth. As most bunnies do lol

I’ll most likely be switching him back to just his normal Orchard Grass hay very soon, just because i don’t want him getting super used to the Alfalfa. I had him eating it for the past two or three days with his regular (although he hasn’t touched his Orchard grass) just to give him a little boost. Thanks for all the help!
