So I have a pretty large rabbit, he’s brown named Clover and he’s screamed 3 times now in one week. I’m really worried because I’m writing this at 2 am since I woke up at 1:30 AM to him screaming and running around his cage frantically and then flopping limp and breathing really hard. And he did this earlier in the day as well so I left his cage open all day to let him out and he wouldn’t come out but the other time he had done this he sat still and screamed then stopped and hopped out as soon as I opened his cage and I gave him some veggies. I’m really worried because online says they only scream if they are dying or believe that they are.

Hello there. I’m sorry to hear about your bunny’s troubles, it must be quite scary. What is happening when he screams? Is he moving around and getting caught on something? A sound or smell that may be scary, what about other pets moving through the room? Have you had him long?

If you’ve had him a while and this is new behaviour I would check to make sure that everything in and around his environment is the same as always. Check his cage for any sharp objects or things he could be getting tangled in. If everything seems fine it may be worth considering a vet visit to check for underlying health issues. Bun could get scared to death or severely injure himself during the panic.

In the meantime it may help to drape a blanket over half of the cage to make it feel more safe and secure.

Have you gone to the vet yet about it? It almost sounds like a heart attack or something. Its possible something is scaring your bunny and its possible your bunny is experiencing abnormal pain. You need to bring him to the vet asap to get answers before its too late, as youre right that rabbits only scream when they believe theyre about to die.

I wish you luck! Please keep us updated!

I would definitely recommend taking him to the vet as soon as you can. Maybe try seeing if he has any cuts or abnormal lumps on him. I hope that everything thing will be ok and he will get better soon!

I was thinking, did something around his cage break lately that had glass or something sharp that he could have swallowed? that could be causing pain and making him scream. Again, hope he gets better soon!
