my rabbits have full run of the house. Duke more so because Frejya is nursing. Duke sleeps in my daughter’s room and Frejya and the kits in the cage. My daughter opens the door as soon as she wakes up so Frejya can roam free.

They poop and pee everywhere. At first, it was just the cage after I cleaned it and moved the kits to the nesting box.

When I moved them back to the cage, they would hop in the nesting box.

So I cleaned the nesting box, put fresh breeding and even food on the small top area.

Duke will get in to eat but will go OUTSIDE the box, Frejya too. I can’t seem to get them in the box to go.

We took a drawer from my daughter’s old dresser and did the same. Every so often they will poo in there but mostly around it.

Any suggestions? How often should I clean? Should I add some linens? I think Duke likes the linens.

I really need some help with this.

        Thanks all!

The main problem is that it sounds like neither one are spayed/neutered. Hormones make it nearly impossible to litter train them, especially since it means they’re likely doing it for territorial reason. I have two neutered boys who aren’t bonded and they still poop everywhere constantly because of the territorial issue. You can lay a good foundation by wiping up pee with a paper towel and putting it in the box and doing the same with poops. Keeping the hay and their foods near the box will help too. Bunnies do like to pee on soft surfaces, but if you decided to just let them pee on blankets or towels they will need to be cleaned every day. You also risk them sitting in their urine and having a case of urine scald. Can you find a way to make a makeshift grate/mesh covering over whatever you’re using? Wood stove pellets are great for sopping up the urine. If you choose to keep the litterbox without something over the top, use carefresh or some kind of soft bedding like that because it’s soft and should soak up the majority of the urine.

Agree with Asriel and Bombur. Also, it sounds like Frejya and Duke are out together? If they’re both still intact you’re risking her getting pregnant again (as well as fighting), they can mate again right after the female has given birth. They should be separated until both have been fixed and have had a month to heal and their hormones have settled.

Duke is fixed m, Frejya isn’t. About an hour or so I watched him get in the box stay for a bit, start digging, stopped, ate, dug, push some litter of and take off in my room.

Frejya we’ll get fixed after the kits are weaned.

Thanks for that tip. We have plenty of old linens I haven’t throw away. I can use them in their litter box. I’m going to see if I can get more st the thrift. I was the rabbits laundry separate from ours including their blankets and sheets and I add a bit of vinegar to the wash.

Will a screen (window screen) work as a makeshift grate?

We’re cleaning the carpets tomorrow and I’m pretreating them first.

Where can I find wood stove pell
