I have a 7 month old Mini-Rex rabbit, she is neutered, and seems to be perfectly content being on her own. Everything I have read has told me to get her a friend, but I’m not sure if she would actually like one. Her pin is about 90 square feet or so, so there’s definitely room for another rabbit, but I’m not sure if she’d be alright with sharing her home. She’s very social with people, and has had a few play dates with my guide pigs, and does just fine, I’m just not sure about another rabbit.

If I do decide to get another rabbit, would it be alright to get a smaller one (Lucinda is about 3 1/2 pounds)? I would really like to get a small rabbit if I got another one, rather than one the same size.

While some rabbits can seem content on their own, most are happier with a friend. I got friends for my rabbits because even with the best will in the world, 9 hours a day are taken up with work, 8 with sleeping, so even on the best possible days, I could spend a maximum of 7 hours with them, leaving 17 hours a day where they’re alone.

But, it sounds like you don’t really want another rabbit, in which case, don’t get one. It’s hard work, bonding is time consuming, slow and exhausting, and keeping two rabbits separate for at least a month is hard work.

Size doesn’t matter at all when bonding rabbits.
