Lately Harvey has been humping Snul a lot. He’s not really chasing her, she’s just kind of letting him do whatever he wants. He can be humping her for 5 minutes straight, like: humping, pausing to catch his breath (not as young as he used to be), then continuing some more, pausing, and so on. And she just sits there ??

Is he just trying to show her who’s in charge or could he have forgotten that he isn’t able to procreate? ?

Apologies if this is already a topic, I couldn’t seem to find it anywhere?

If its going on for minutes at a time, it sounds like hormones. To avoid possible fighting, it might be good to do a little bit of stress bonding here and there just in case.

But he’s 5 years old and was neutered when he was 6 months old.. You’d think the hormones would be gone by now…

How long have they been together and has the female been fixed for a long time as well?

It could be a rough patch in their bond so a little rebonding may be in order.

They have been together since august last year and Snul was spayed approximately 7-8 months ago. He doesn’t seem aggressive about it, and she doesn’t really seem to mind either.. She lies perfectly still (she normally runs away when he tries to hump)

Did you ever do any formal bonding with them? Or did you just put them together when she came home? I’m just asking because a lot of times people won’t do any bonding and the pair end up fighting and having dominance issues.

They were given lots of time to bond. I learned a lot from the first time I bonded two buns too quickly. I think they had about 3-4 month to getting used to each other gradually before I put them in the same cage

haha just checking. Like Wick said, it might be a good idea to maybe do a little bit of bonding to make sure things are still good. Better safe than sorry, right?

No harm in trying, I’ll keep an eye on them and see what happens

Are you in the northern hemisphere? If so the change of seasons into spring can often cause a bit of spring fever even in neutered buns ☺
