So Julep had an abscess under one of her ears removed about 2 and a half weeks ago. She got the stitches removed a week ago tomorrow. When the vet was going to remove the stitches, she had to also remove a big scab that was covering them so Julep ended up with another open wound.. I was given antibiotic ointment to put on the wound until it healed again. So the wound is doing great, nice healthy pink skin, good scab covering it, the whole nine yards. The thing is that all her fur around where the wound is healing is so greasy from the ointment. I will wait until the scab has fallen off, probably a few more days, but we need to solve the greasy fur issue. Any suggestions? I was just going to wrap her in a towel and use a wet washcloth on the greasy areas but I’m not sure that will really get enough out. The abscess was under her ear so she can’t groom that area very well and of course all the petting she wants means that the greasy fur has extended down her back as well. I don’t want to use soap on her but I’m not sure water alone will cut it. Anyone had this problem before?

A warm wash cloth should do the trick. If it’s still a little greasy after, you can put a little bit of cornstarch on it and brush it out. That should absorb a lot of the grease.
