So on a quick recap I took in Clover to get spayed. She has healed fantastic and is in great spirits. She’s eating well whether its her hay, pellets or treats. In fact she seems to be feeling even better than before her spay playing with toys she once ignored exct. The one thing that we’ve found to be strange in her behavior is that she seems to be having a harder time relaxing and she doesn’t want to be picked up in the least. I know that many rabbits hate being picked up, but prior to her spay she didn’t mind being lifted up onto my husbands lap so she could sit with him while he would play video games or he would lie back in his recliner and she would lay across his chest and lick his chin. With me i would sort of sit semi-cross legged and set her between my legs and pet her till she would doze. She’s pretty well healed up, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if shes probably just in pain still? I certainly don’t want to be picking her up if she’s still in pain, but I’m wondering if i’m going to have to work with her again to get her use to being picked up again.

Side question. She has a hell of a dewlap and I think its cute as hell. Is that dewlap going to go away now that she’s spayed?

Hmm, she might still be in a little discomfort. Does she relax when not being picked up? How long ago was her spay? She might also be having hormone fluctuations which make her a little antsy.

Lucky for you the dewlap is here to stay! Bertha has a glorious dewlap too

shes going on a few weeks now but for the most part she seems fine though I am thinking shes probably still in a bit of discomfort because she really isn’t relaxing unless shes in her crate on her blankets. She will still lay on the floor after shes run herself out of bunny zoomie juice but only on her side. I also hadn’t thought about the hormone fluctuations to be honest which very well could be since she had gone through a few false pregnancies before her spay. im a little sad i might not get to watch her build a nest again but i know its for the best. Oh well at least there is still smoothing

So Its been awhile but shes still acting quite different than she had and we’ve had to re-bond with her as a result. Before her spay she was a rabbit who liked to cuddle, even jumping up into my arms to do so or jumping up to sit with my husband but much of this she does not do anymore. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain, as she keeps having the zoomies and binkies up and down the hallway and has taking up a new fascination with grabbing the cats tails and is bound to knock down any baby gate in her way. I mean shes still clover but it makes me sad because i really enjoyed those evening cuddles. But we’ve literally had to re-bond completely with her on her handling and petting.
