Hello, everyone! 🙂 I just got a 10-week-old bunny today, and since we got home he hasn’t eaten, drank, pooped, or peed. I have him in my bathroom where it’s quiet, and we’re leaving him alone. I’m sure he’s scared, but I’m getting nervous that he’s not doing much. I’m new to this, so any help us appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the bunny world How long has it been since you brought him home? If he’s scared, he would display some body languages like being hunched in a corner with his ears flattened (unless it’s a lop then ignore the ears part) and not being interested in his surroundings.

Do you have any other pets at home? He may also have smelled something that humans can’t smell (e.g. scent of a dog/cat etc) and is freaking out about it. If it’s just scared from being in an unfamiliar environment, then this should resolve in a while; but if it’s the scent of another animal, you may have to do something about it.

            Welcome, welcome!

Ahaha, first time away from his mom and siblings for this long would freak me out too! You’re doing the right thing though, letting him relax for a while and just giving him an opportunity to get used to his new environment.

Personally, After a while if he hasn’t moved, i would get down on his level. For my bun is me laying flat on the floor lol. And just sit with him, play on your phone or read a book. Don’t make sudden moves, be nice and slow with your movements.

Then i would just wait, a while after that, i would maybe try to pet him to show him that its okay and try to relax him. You could also play some soft music for background noise, in case he is hearing something that humans cant that’s freaking him out.

Thank you! I got him around noon today, and it’s now 8:22. I have dogs, and I’m keeping them away from from him right now. They do bark, so I keep the door shut. He’s been in the corner hunched a little, and since I posted he has been eating his pellets and a tiny bit of hay. I still haven’t seen him drink yet. No sign of poop or pee yet. I sat down by him for awhile, and he started hopping around and eating some. Thanks for your response! I know bunnies can have GI stasis, and im trying not to freak out. I heard stress can cause them not to poop.

That’s great! He should (hopefully) be peeing and pooping shortly if he’s eating!

GI Stasis is scary, so it’s totally understandable that you would be worried about it. I freaked out about it as soon i heard it existed, because my bunny isn’t the best hay eater and when i first got him i noticed he was pretty hunched up. Turns out that’s just how he sits and i was over feeding him on pellets, so he had no interest in his hay. lol

The best thing you can do is know all the signs, and watch for them (which you are), so great job!

Don’t be afraid to ask any questions you may have! Congrats again on your new bundle of cuteness!

Thank you guys! I’m happy to report that he is eating, drinking, pooping, and peeing! I jumped the gun a bit, but I guess I would rather be safe than sorry.

That’s excellent! And no worries, it is better to be safe than sorry like you said!

                      Glad to hear that!

Since you mentioned you have dogs, would just like to preempt you that bunnies have a better sense of smell so they may be able to smell the dogs’ scent (especially if you have interacted with them and then go to your bunny). If he appears scared for no reason, it may be due to that. Every bunny is different though and some may not even be afraid of dogs, but just fyi
