So my 2 month old bunny was barely eating any hay about a few days ago and per some of your suggestions, I’ve decided to cut back on her unlimited pellets by reducing it to two tablespoons (1/8th of a cup?) a day to get her to start eating her Timothy hay and… it worked! She’s been eating a lot more hay as of late. I’d say her previous diet was around 90% pellets and 10% hay and now it’s 80% hay and 10% pellets so I think that’s a major improvement.

I’m just slightly confused because this is the second time in the past week that I’ve noticed only very few of her poops are irregular… at least I’m assuming they’re poops. They look pretty tiny compared to her usual sized poops and they were hard but flat? Like she’d squished them by stepping on them. She’s behaving as normal as ever— flopping over to nap here and there and doing these small baby binkies in her litter box while she’s eating, running around in her usual fits of hyperness, playing with her treat ball, exploring her surroundings and overall being the curious, relaxed little bun she is. The only change I can mention is the fact that I cut back on her pellets and also it’s gotten pretty warm here in California over the past two days so maybe that’s affecting her? She’s drinking water and eating just fine, though.

I’m wondering if I should be worried? Her weird poops aren’t frequent whatsoever (like I said, this is the second time in the past week, maybe a week and a half) and I’ve gently felt around her belly and it seems soft and squishy, not hard, and I’ve read somewhere that that’s good so I’m at a loss.

Are there normal poops most of the time?

If so, then it sounds like they are uneaten cecals that she stepped on. The cecals look like a bunch of small grapes, and sometimes an odd one doesn’t get eaten. they are really squishy so could get stepped on and flattened easily.

As long as she is still eating well, and her other poops are normal, then she’s prob just adjusting to her new diet. Excess cecals can be from too many treats or pellets, so it is a little surprising that she has them after getting less pellets! the heat could be making her less interested in eating them? But I do notice my two will have the odd uneaten one here and there.

Her poops are very normal, yes. I may have overreacted and freaked out a bit (typical me, thinking the worst) because after reading a poop guide for bunnies, I noticed a few other weird shapen ones, like long ovals, that we’re shiny and grape-looking like you said so I’m just assuming those are cecals that she wasn’t able to get to in time. I don’t usually see cecals in her droppings so I got nervous! Thank you so much!

I think a big part of being a bunny owner is freaking out about poop!

This album is pretty handy: https://imgur.com/a/5N4lD
