        Hi All,

My 6month old rex has a large dog crate in our spare room. It started with him shaking the door to come out early in the morning. So we decided to keep his crate door open which remedied the noise for a while. Now he sits outside our bedroom door and scratches until one of us gets up. It has been getting earlier and earlier!

When we get up we feed him and come back to bed. Once he has eaten he is back at our door scratching again. He sometimes does it in the evenings too, even if we aren’t in the bedroom,he tries to get in.

He is being neutered next week so not sure if that will stop the behaviour?

        Any ideas would be amazing.

        Thanks

Scratching and digging aren’t hormonal behaviors, they are typical bunny behaviors. It honestly just seems like he wants to go in your bedroom. Can you bunny proof the bedroom so he could maybe run around in their while you’re not there/asleep?

You’re training him that if he scratches at the door, he gets food. So you’re positively reinforcing the behaviour that you want to stop. Bunnies will definitely learn associations like that.

As long as he has adequate space (which is sounds like he does, if he can come and scratch on your door), I would invest in some ear plugs and ignore it!

It’s also possible that he’s lonely. Perhaps once you’ve got him neutered, you could begin thinking about getting a spayed girlfriend for him (this is a lot of work and shouldn’t be taken lightly!)

This is the classic bunny breakfast alarm. Ophelia starts jumping on the bed at about 5:30-6 every morning. I just pet her and chill until it’s time to actually wake up. If you get up and feed, bun is going to learn that he gets food when he does it so he won’t stop.

                Hi all,

Thanks for the help. This morning at 3am we just put him back in his cage which worked until 6.30.

Our main problem with him coming into our bedroom is that he jumps om the bed and instantly does a wee – I can’t keep up with the laundry! Its not a little wee either!

He has a girlfriend that he can see through the baby gate (will bond after he has been done) so I’m hoping they will play together soon!
