My 5-month-old bunny has been terrified for about 20 minutes and I really don’t know why. He’s been smacking his foot every few minutes and his eyes are really wide and he’s sniffing a lot. There aren’t any cats or dogs or load noise. He isn’t responding to being pet and will not move from his cage, I even opened the pen gate to see if he would free roam my room and no luck so far. I know bunnies can’t be scared for too long, but I don’t know what to do.

I’ve started playing relaxing bunny music to help and he’s started moving around, but its like he’s waiting to be attacked or something.

He could be hearing a sound you do not perceive, which is not unheard of. This has happened to Wick on occasion.

Can you try distracting with food? Rabbits have crazy tunnel vision towards food.

I did give him banana and lettuce, but I don’t want to give him too much. Also, would the music help drown out the noise?

Echoing Wick here. I try to distract Kurotta with his favourite treats too when he is scared. Normally it works; sometimes it may take a little longer to work; sometimes it doesn’t work. Make sure the bun has hidey holes so that he can feel safe despite the noises.

Personally I think music does drown out certain noises, although I find that rabbits generally have the ability to isolate different sounds because their hearing is way more advanced than us. On certain occasions I tried playing some music but Kurotta still managed to hear other sounds and be scared for a few minutes, especially if it’s sudden.

Have you moved any objects in the room? Sometimes something on a high place that is different can scare them. It happened with my rabbit Bandit once. He was frightened for several hours before I finally laid down on the floor next to him and looked up from his perspective. I immediately noticed an object I’d placed on a ledge earlier and it looked like it was looming right over. I removed it and Bandit went back to normal ?
