My rabbits mate died on Sunday evening and he seemed heartbroken. Over the past few days since he hasn’t been socialising or eating as much so we thought the best thing was to adopt another rabbit and rebound him. However the rabbit we have just adopted isn’t inoculated and our vet can’t fit her in until Monday evening. We have them in seperate cages and are bonding them ourselves but was wondering are they ok to be in the same room? Or is there a risk of disease spreading?

Totally fine to keep them in the same room. If you have the space, its a good idea to let your new girl settle in in a different room, that way she’s able to acclimate to you and her new environment without the stress of another bunny being so close, especially with her not being spayed yet.

Make sure give her at least 1-2 months for her hormones to die down before you start any bonding sessions. Just do tons of prebonding starting 2 weeks after she’s settled in. And prebond for at least a month. After she’s all settled in and had her spay, having her cage close to your boy’s will help them get used to each other.

I think they mean she’s not vaccinated, rather than not spayed?

Vaccinations are preventative, so it doesn’t matter if she’s not vaccinated and he is. It just means if somehow you brought a rabbit disease into your home, she would get it and your vaccinated boy wouldn’t. It doesn’t mean that shes currently carrying diseases.

But, they do need to both be spayed/neutered for bonding. Is she spayed?

We were told she was spayed but we are getting it double checked. My other rabbit is neutered, but we’re not going to start bonding them until she’s settled and we’ve confirmed she’s spayed
