Hey guys! I am planning to adopt bunnies. I will soon be focusing on letting them free roam around the house ,but was a little concern about sore hocks cuz our house has tiled flooring. So just want u guys to let me know that can a rabbit walk on tiles? I will provide them with their own room with memory foam mats lined with fleeces and a bunch of toys so, that means they can go back to the soft surface if they feel a little irritated by the tiles. Hope I would be a good rabbit owner!

Bunnies as a rule don’t like walking on tiles because they can’t get a good grip on tiles. You could perhaps lay out rag rugs for them to hop on outside of their room. I do that when I visit my mother with my bun, because she has hardwood floors.

Sore hocks is rather more of an issue if a bun is living on really abrasive flooring, like metal wire and also some types of carpet. Abrasive surfaces cause too much wear on the fur underneath the bunny feet, and buns don’t have foot pads like for example rats have, so they need all their foot fur.

As bam has said, rabbits generally don’t (and can’t actually) walk on tiles because their feet automatically go in all sorts of directions when they move. In fact even when they don’t move, you will see their feet sliding away due to the slippery surface.

I have tiles in my bunny room but I’ve covered most parts with some interlocking foam mats, leaving a few tiles for the bunny in case he feels hot etc. He does prefer laying on the tiled parts though.
