  Hey all , my bunny got way more of his antibiotics than he was prescribed for. He needed .11 ml every 12 hours, and he ended up getting way way way more than that.
  
  This is his third round of antibiotics, his first was months ago and just a little over a week ago he got prescribed more but they didn’t help. So they had him switch over to “Enrofloxacin Suspension” just yesterday, which I’m assuming is just the generic name for Baytril.
  
  Does he need to go to the emergency vet?
  
  Super short on money right now so I’m really hoping i wont have to take him into the emergency vet. I did some searching and found that the worst it could do is upset his stomach and i should watch him to make sure he eats and is pooping normally.
  
  Maybe go out and get him OxBow critical care and Probiotics to make sure that his good bacteria is normal?
  
  He’s eating his pellets right now and just drank some water, i made sure to change his litter so i could monitor his droppings and his peeing. He has pooped but they were all super small, and he has peed. It was given to him about 2+ hours ago. I have no idea what to do, im super worried.

  How much did he actually ingest? Typical dosage is 5-15 mg/kg. Does it say the concentration on the bottle?

  I would at least call an emergency vet and tell them how much he got. They can tell you if it’s a dangerous overdose amount or not.

  It says on the label “Enrofloxacin Suspension 50mg/ml. Other than that, it doesnt say anything about the concentration.
  
  He apparently got somewhere between .5 ml to 1 ml

  This is the dosage for oral enrofloxacine that I could find:
  5-10 mg/kg PO bid (Varga, 2013)
  General antibiotic treatment: 5-20 mg/kg PO, SC, IM, IV q12-24h (Blackwells, 2011)

  The dose your bun got was anything from 25 mg to 50 mg. How much does he weigh? If he’s around 2,5 kg (5,5 pounds) he’s not been heavily overdosed.
  
  (PO = per oral, by mouth, bid=twice daily. SC= subcutaneous, IM=intramuscularly, IV= intravenous, q12-24 h= once or twice daily)
  
  Varga is a well known British rabbit vet (Molly Varga), Blackwell are books on veterinary medicine.
  
  I think I’d call the prescribing vet, in any case to ask what to do about the next dose he’s due. If he’s a tiny baby bun, I’d call an emergency vet.

  Theres 50mg in the bottle we were given, i guess thats why it said that on the label (i didnt put that together before lol). He ended up getting about 1ml or just under.
  
  His droppings have gotten better, they are at their usual size from what i see.
  
  He has been eating his daily pellets, i fed him some plain canned pumpkin puree for fiber through a syringe and also fed him some water just to make sure he is plenty hydrated. However, he hasnt really been eating his hay but it is normal for him to not eat his hay while he has pellets.
  
  Other than that his activity has been the same, he took a small nap earlier which had me worried which is why i gave him the pumpkin and water. After that he woke up some more, probably because i had him in a little blanket burrito and he wanted to get away.
  
  He is now out having some floor time to get him moving a little bit. If he doesnt start eating some hay soon though, im thinking ill probably give him a blend of hay and some water through the syringe. I tried calling the vet but nobody answered, turns out they’re closed today! Also tried the emergency vet and left a message for one of their bunny vets.

  My bun is currently on enrofloxacin suspension as well as chloramphenicol, he is getting 1.5 cc every 12 hours of each as well as baytril ear drops 1-2 drops in each ear every 12 hours.
  
  1 cc is equal to 1 ml. My bun is getting basically 3 ml of antibiotic suspension every 12 hours and hasn’t over dosaged? Unless ur measurements are wrong but .11 ml isn’t much but then again i don’t know what wayway more of that is.
  
  Just expect lots of mushy poop to come out rather then little balls of poop and maybe some upset stomach.

  The actual amount of medicine that you put in the syringe for your bunny isn’t an accurate way to measure the dose. Enrofloxacin comes in many different strenghths. OnyxMoon’s is 50mg/ml, which is 2.5 times stronger than the 20mg/ml suspension that I’m currently using for my rabbit, so .4cc from OnyxMoon’s bottle would be equivalent to 1cc from the one I have, and each would contain 20mg of the actual antibiotic.

  He is still doing good , still sneezing every now and then but its gone down a lot. The day after he got the increased dosage on accident i continued with the proper dosage and his attitude never changed. He does hate the medicine though, every time i have to put him in a burrito. (tried from the floor and he will do everything, including biting, to get away and holding him is not an option.)
  
  He has been a bit more sleepy lately but he still gets up from his litter box to eat his pellets and drink as well.
  
  He is definitely still sick, he has been sitting in his own urine ever since i got him and now his fur on his underbelly has matted up unfortunately. I’m not sure what to do about this issue, i just got him a litter box with a grate hoping that will help.

  I’m glad the sneezing is better! It’s not convenient when a bun fights its meds, but it is considered a good sign, because it means there’s strenght in the bun. Really sick buns will just sit still and take it. (This doesn’t apply to yummy meds, some meds like Metacam and for example banana flavored antibiotics are easy to get a bun to take).
  
  I hope the grate will help and that he will stop sitting in his pee as he feels better. If he gets lots of urine on his underbelly/inner thighs, you could give him a butt bath. I give my poopy-butt-prone bun butt baths in a plastic basin with just 1-2 inches of lukewarm water in it. Bam stands on his back feet in the water, his fore paws on the rim of the basin while I scoop water on him with my hand to rinse off what needs to be rinsed off. Then I dry him with a microfiber towel and a blow dryer on the lowest setting. Urine can cause urine scald/urine burn, but that can be prevented to an extent by using a barrier cream on the relevant body parts after rinsing and drying. Vaseline will work. Diaper rash cream can also be used.

  Ive given him quite a few butt baths but his hair is really matted. Im not sure what to do other than cutting the mat out, if its safe to do so. Also he has another thing going on, i noticed it after his bath yesterday, I’ll try to post a picture of it.

  It’s safe to cut the mats out but it can be difficult because you have to be extremely careful so you don’t cut his skin. Maybe a vet tech at your vet’s could give him a sanitary belly shave. Is the picture of protrusions from his anus?

  Thats my plan, to take him to the vet and ask them for some help just because i’ve tried and i can’t get them out myself. Yeah i have no idea whats going on with his bottom, pretty sure its his anus but i dont know what that means.

  My cat;s bum got like that when he was constipated and had to be put on laxitives. Def ask your vet about that too.

  I definitely will ask, he has been pooping quite well so i have peace of mind that he isn’t constipated at least! But its still not good for it to be like that. Hopefully he will be seeing the vet tomorrow!
