Lily was spayed 3 weeks ago but she seems just as unfriendly. She bites me a lot and then tries to escape. I will be doing nothing to bother her and she will just suddenly bite me and then run when i let go of her for a second. Cocoa is being extremely sweet now and only bites me when im in her way. Lily will be sweet and be licking my nose and then 5 seconds later she is biting me. There have been no recent changes with food, or her cage.

Girls can take a while for their hormones to die down after being spayed. Some take as long as 6 months, or so I’ve heard, but I think most are around 2 months. I think a lot of it is still the fact that she’s adjusting to the hormone levels in her body.

            Are you holding her?

No. I am sitting in the x pen with her which is the only safe place I can be with her. I meant like if I am trying to catch her to put her in her cage or checking the length of her nails to see if I need to trim them. For the nails I just have to keep her from moving around but I don’t have to actually pick her up to check. If she is doing a binky and hits the side, I will hold her still without picking her up to make sure she’s okay. Sometimes she bites me when I’m petting her too

I know you’re not deliberately annoying her, but it seems like its quite clear that she bites you when you’re restraining her. You might not be doing it for bad reasons, but if you say ‘she runs away when you let go of her for a second’, obviously you’re holding her at the time. If you’re trying to catch her, or cut her nails, or hold her still, those are pretty typical reasons for a rabbit to get aggressive.

Wait so then what should I do because I do have to keep her still to see if I need to trim the nails?

I think you are going to have to get used to using the towel method / bunny burrito.

Lily freaks out when you do that. I have tried it but she doesn’t calm down. I don’t trim their nails while trying to hold her still. I got my mom to help me but I have to check if she needs a nail trim

Yesterday I was reading my book while I was playing with her. She hopped onto my lap and then put her front feet on my chest and then she bit my lip. I wasn’t bothering her at all and she just decided to bite me. She did this multiple times today

It could be she just doesn’t have a good idea of what’s too hard for nipping. With puppies, they do what’s called “play biting”, where they bite each other out of play, but it’s the feedback they get from the other puppy that signals when the bite is too hard. With rabbits, it’s not really play biting as much as nipping for attention or an attempt to groom. The intention is different, but needing feedback is the same! Rabbits don’t have any good reference for the pain tolerance of a human, especially human lips! They’re huge! If they were real bites, she probably could have taken a chunk from your lip, so my bet is it was a nip that she just didn’t know was too hard/she shouldn’t nip there.

To provide feedback, usually a high pitched squeal and retracting away from the rabbit will do the trick. Repeat this each time it happens. Wick is so gentle in licking my toes now, haha.

We had an issue with them not liking my mom at one point and biting her and Lily doesn’t respond to the high pitched noise. She will continue to bite just as hard. What else can I do to make her realize it hurts? Also, she likes grabbing my phone case and yanking my phone around. How can I stop this? I try to keep it out of her reach but sometimes I have to be on my phone for a minute. I’m worried about her eating a part of the phone case or breaking my new case. She broke my last phone case and I can’t keep buying new phone cases since I am spending all my money on buying more toys and a second x pen so they have more space

Maybe she’s asing you to pay attention to her because you’re reading or on your phone while with her in the xpen? I know Rain comes up to me and nips my back when I’m doing something other then giving her my undivided attention. Ha ha!
I’ve learned not to do anything else while spending time with Rain, because she’ll probably eat it. Also, I’ve lost a phone case, a charger, two pairs of earbuds, and half a thin mint because of leaving things lying around. I even used to do my homework on the floor. With some buns, especially hormonal ones like mine and yours, it’s best to not have anything in their reach really. I just sit above ground when on my phone nowadays. When you’re in the Xpen with her, just give her one on one time. She could be scared of you all, and bite in response. You’ll have to show her that you mean no harm, by sharing space with her.

Also one other thing I recommend is getting a hard phone case because the rubber ones are just too easy to eat. You can still find super cute ones like those glittery kind. ?

Okay thank you! I have an older phone so I have a hard time finding good cases that I like. I am working for my friends mom as a dog trainer so that has helped with earning money a lot. She pays me $20 every time I help with training for a few hours. I am currently trying to buy a piece of horse equipment and some extra bunny stuff but after that I will get a new phone case. Even though she pays me a lot, it takes me a while to be able to afford anything because I save half the money for my bunnies vet bills in the future.
