I read over the forum rules and am quite unsure if this is permissible, so if not, I understand if this gets taken down.

I am a part of a fortunate group of rabbit owners who live very close to a well-established and very knowledgeable exotic vet, who has treated Wick like their own child. Unfortunately,I know many users do not have access to such means or have a difficult time getting a second opinion they trust.

Oxbow, the brand that most vets recommend for food and supplies, regularly hosts ask a vet sessions, where you can comment questions/concerns and Oxbow’s main vet will answer those questions. Personally I’ve asked questions about Wick’s ringworm, the use of probiotics, and upper respiratory infection treatment. While this in no way replaces an actual vet visit, I think for those who may be struggling to find answers, reaching out isn’t a bad idea, especially for more basic questions that you’d like a professional opinion on, rather than BB members. If you’re concerned about revealing your name, you can make a random Instagram account and they also take questions from there as well!

I apologize if this seems like advertising, but it seems like a genuinely good way to get more professional feedback or suggestions. I know some parents are not very convinced by BB members input, but maybe hearing a vet say “Yes, a rabbit should eat mostly hay” or “Yes, spaying and neutering is important” may put people in a better position to improve their pet’s quality of life.

If anyone is weary, feel free to message me and I can post your question on your behalf and message you back the vet’s response! Oxbow typically announces the sessions 1-2weeks before they happen on social media.

I personally think this is an Amazing idea Wick (I’m a newbie so not sure if its against the rules or not haha)
But I live out in the country and most people up here see Rabbits as pests ruining their garden or food, so its hard to find “exotic” vets.
Is there a charge for this?
          And thanks for sharing!!!

@ Nutmeg – No charge! Oxbow hosts it at least once a month, and anyone can just comment with a question, and Dr. Kohles answers them on a livestream (that’s later posted on Facebook if you didn’t catch the live stream).

The next one is coming up soon! March 21st. Again, if you don’t have Facebook or aren’t comfortable using your name to ask a question, you can make an Instagram account and do it there, or message me.

That’s great, Wick. Thanks for sharing. I see these once in a while on FB but never thought about mentioning. May be very helpful to some members. But like you said, for advice, not to replace a real vet.

So do I just join the Oxbow Facebook page so that I can take part in this?

You can just visit their page on your Facebook account to comment a question. You should like and follow through page so you can know when they update stuff, but anyone is free to browse the page itself!

Oxbow just conducted one right now, and I realized you don’t need a Facebook to actually view it. If anyone’s interested to see what it’s like, just click to view the session from today, which includes some information about rabbit spaying, the RHD virus, ear infection treatment, bladder stone surgery, and guinea pig health.

Oh Awesome! Thanks Wick! I am just at work and I had asked if he could talk about rabbit spaying – so I am SO excited that he picked my question as one to talk about and can’t wait to watch it!!!!!
