        Hi guys,

        Hope everybunny is well

After switching Sam from alfalfa to timothy, I found that the timothy hay was making him sneeze (and giving me itchy hands when I pulled it from the bale). I’ve also offered him Oxbow timothy in both normal & harvest-stack form, but he’s not really touching those either.

I then purchased oat hay & orchard grass, both of which he seems to love – are these appropriate to feed as his main diet? (I think I remember @jerseygirl mentioning that in Australia bunnies mainly eat oaten/wheaten hays as timothy is not as widely available) — I usually sprinkle with various herbs & forage as well.

        Thanks as always!

Yepp, those are both absolutely fine to be fed as a staple hay

I’ve been feeding my boys oat since they were babies and orchard is their main hay now. They’ll touch timothy, but they get so so excited for orchard.

Agreed, both can be fed daily .

Weird you mention sneezing from Timothy! Garf has started to do so too, I kind of thought it was just the batch he’s got but I’ll keep an eye on it

My oldest bunny sneezes with timothy hay too, slightly better with harvest stacks, but he’s fine with orchard grass hay so he mainly gets that now

Good to know others have experienced similar with the timothy! I was given Metacam for him which helped but biggest difference I noticed when I removed the timothy hay all together.

He loved the oat hay so much he was tearing the bag open as soon as it arrived hahaha

xD that’s so adorable! If you ever end up switching back to timothy, and he is allergic to it, you could always give him a little children’s benadryl. Bombur has bad summer allergies and we have to give him some every morning.
Az went through the biggest oat hay phase around the time he was neutered. The vet techs tried giving him timothy and he would not eat it, then they saw the oat hay bag I packed, and sure enough he was stuffing his face. Now he’s all about the orchard.
