I’ll be getting a dresser like the one pictured below soon and I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to protect the legs from inevitable chewing. I usually put gates around furniture but, if possible, I’d like to find a way that allows the little monsters to still be able to go underneath it so that I don’t have to block off running space.

I have seen some spray that tastes bitter so they wont like it that you could use. I saw it on amazon.

            Would this work? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DOZYV12/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00DOZYV12&linkCode=as2&tag=anifacgui-20&linkId=ULNQE6FTEYYTOCN7

I saw the suggestion somewhere to use large flex tubing to cover table legs and prevent chewing. Not the most elegant looking, but it would probably work! I haven’t used this myself yet, Thor is pretty good about chewing. But I’m keeping it in mind in case she changes her mind about the tasty table legs.

I’ve had a bottle of bitter spray before but when I sprayed it on something I breathed a little bit in and couldn’t get the taste out of my mouth and throat for hours. It was super unpleasant and I was worried about that happening to my babies so I chucked it.

That’s a good idea Thor! I’m going to Lowe’s today so I’ll see if they have anything like that that’s big enough for the legs. I have NIC cubes and gates around most of my furniture and cardboard around the baseboards so I’m not too worried about elegance.

What about like a silicone or rubber leg wrap? I’m imagining those silicone mats that you use to rest hot saucepans on, maybe you could wrap those around the legs and cable tie them?

I have heard you can use hot sauce to discourage chewing but I have never tried it.

I’d cut off the legs and shave the bottom so it sits flat…..kidding of course. I would definitely look for some type of permanent hardware over sprays and such. It was our experience the sprays eventually wear off and if you aren’t diligent you don’t realize it’s worn off until you notice the little teeth marks. Then of course it’s too late. Something along the line of Thor’s idea is good.

Alfie used to be a monster with baseboards, I just took a bar of plain soap and rubbed it along them and he never touched them again. It can also help if you get the soap a little bit wet/soft beforehand.
I’ve also heard of people using clear masking tape as a deterrent, just taping it around/on surfaces that they’re prone to chew, for some reason rabbits hate the smell/taste, although I don’t know if that would damage the wood in the long run. For that one, it’s good to keep an eye on them at first as always to make sure that they’re not eating the tape!

If they don’t have a big enough one, check out the Plumbing aisle. It has all sorts of different size tubing, pipes, etc. .

Yeah I’m definitely gonna avoid any kind of sprays, hot sauce, and other liquids lol. I might try soap for the baseboards but I won’t risk it for this dresser because I could just see the buns powering through the nasty flavor and chewing the wood regardless.
I couldn’t find any kind of tubing that would work at Lowe’s.
Maybe I can combine your ideas and wrap the silicone mats around them and put masking tape over it for double protection…. at least as a temporary solution. Not sure if that’ll work either though.

Ahh the lengths we go through to be able to have bunnies in our homes. I appreciate all the suggestions!!

what about slitting open a pool noodle and wrapping that around them?

I thought about that but I’m sure they would just rip it to shreds and possibly ingest it
