I have a three year old lionhead, Felix. He was a rescue rabbit but I do not have any information about his background. Felix always had rough teeth but they seemed to be okay. However just last week his top incisors chipped and started to become spread apart which I have never seen in rabbits before. There is also some inflammation above those incisors so im thinking it is an abscess. I made an appointment with the vet which is good because just tonight he kept turning his head away from food. I was wondering if other people have had this problem and what their experience was. I was not sure if it would call for his incisors being extracted (and does anyone have an idea on price for that?)

If his incisors are growing apart it sounds like they are getting to long. Are other top or bottom teeth overlapping completing covering the other? You vet should be able to guide you. My bunny had all his incisors out and that cost £250 — however he didn’t need an overnight stay. Many do and this can put the price up. However filing teeth costs around £150 and that needs doing every 6 weeks so removal works out cheaper. It gave Finn a new lease of life so if yours needs it doing id say go for it.

In contrast to Emma, Wick gets his incisors (bottom specifically) filed every 5 weeks to as low as they go. It works out for Wick because he needs to go in every 5 weeks to have his molars filed.l anyways, so his vet does that incisors at the same time. Each grinding is about $158. That in combination that Wick would need to go to a different vet for the extraction made it more simple just to have the incisors filed than extracted. I’m not comfortable with any other vet aside from Wick’s current, and Wick’s vet was wary about extraction generally since Wick’s routine works better to file the incisors.
