I recently adopted an 8-week old female bunny from my local shelter, and I already have a current 1-year-old spayed female that I got from them a couple of months back. My current female can be quite territorial. I set up their cages to where they are side by side and can see each other and my adult is not happy with the new arrangement. Shes constantly antagonizing her through the bars. In all honesty,  I’m scared to let them out together. Any advice on where I can go from there?

Right now you need to keep them completely separated until a few weeks after the younger girl’s spay. Only when hormones will be completely out of the picture then you’ll be able to start the bonding process ^^

I would move the 8 week old bunny to a different room while she settles in. It can be quite overwhelming for a young bunny to move to a new place, with new people, smells and noises, and to also have a territorial existing rabbit looming over them.

Once she’s settled in, and bonded with you a bit (at least two weeks), you can move them back to side by side (with at least 6 inches between the cages so they can’t nip through the bars) so they get used to the smell of each other. A couple of weeks after that you can start swapping them between each others cages, which is known as ‘prebonding’. Bonding will be much easier if you prebond for at least a month before actual bonding.

They shouldn’t have any face to face introductions until a month after the new female is spayed.
