Hi I really could use some advice please.

I really suddenly lost my 1 and a half year old boy today. It was such a shock and left both me and his sister (Luna) in a state.

doing some research since then, I have read that it’s really important to let the alive bun see the body of the other to understand whats happened otherwise the “wait” for the other to return and don’t move on / can become ill themselves. unfortunately, I didn’t realise it at the time and have left the bunny at the vets for a post mortem and cannot go back and get him as its now sunday afternoon and they have closed. I could potentially get him tomorrow instead of the post mortum, but obviously staying at the vets overnight means he has lost his scent maybe? Plus I then have to pick between the post mortum or bringing him home????

My main priority is luna and I just want whats best for her, but obviously I have to decide quickly and don’t know what to do.

Any advice would be so appreciated.

        Thank you!

        Annalise & Luna

I’m so sorry for your loss.

How does Luna seem? Is she eating and pooping?

Lots of people don’t realise that bunnies need to see the body of their partner, so this happens a lot. It’s not an obvious assumption to make. Don’t feel bad about it!

I think now it’s too late, and she probably won’t really understand if you let her see the body tomorrow. The important thing is to make sure she has lots of company, and is eating and pooping. If you give her lots of attention, it should help her adjust.

Again, I’m sorry for your loss!
