Are you picking him up to get him out of his cage? And putting him on your lap?

Hi! Buns are prey animals, so they will see you as a predator and act fearful (ie. run away). They also don’t like being picked up. It sounds like Shadow needs time to feel safe in his new home and adjust. Depending on the bun, this can take weeks or months. The process can be slow, but rewarding . Here are some ways you can start building trust with him:

            – sit or lay next to his cage as often as possible (don’t pet him unless he is ok with it)
            – don’t force him out of his cage unless it is necessary (ie. cleaning)
            – don’t pick him up unless it is necessary (ie. going to the vet, trimming nails, etc.)
            – when he is out of his cage, sit on the floor and place some treats near you (once he is comfortable with that you can try feeding him treats out of your hand)
            – try not to make quick/sudden movements or loud noises
