Hi again all! So Petunia is 13 weeks now and her spay is set for April 4th! I’m excited and nervous for her. How long does it take for the hormones to dissipate? She’s been a very good bun, what changes can I expect now that hormones are kicking in? She doesn’t seem aggressive in the least. I hope she won’t change much other than mellow out just slightly as she can be on the high strung side. I have let her interact with Mr Buns and they were pretty much in love grooming and cuddling and have not had any issues other than mr buns peeing next to her food bowl and her pooping next to his. I did see her try to hump him for the first time so is that the hormones kicking in or is she just starting to become a dominant bun because she’s getting more comfortable? I am putting the bunny dates on hold for now since I’m in a really good place with them and don’t want to ruin an easy bond when she is healed from her spay. They share a room with fencing and can still see and smell each other and lie next to one mother.

Also if her hormones are kicking in will this affect Mr Buns? He is neutered. Will it drive him crazy?

Please no snarky comments on how I should t have let them bond before spaying. Thanks.

When Luna’s hormones kicked in, she really didn’t change much, except that she honked and circled and humped more. You may or may not start to notice a decrease in Petunia’s good litter habits. Also, if she tried humping Mr Buns, that is more of an exhibit of dominance as opposed to sexual behavior. However, it was probably prompted by her hormones. Buns can smell the hormones of other buns, so it will affect Mr Buns as well, and could cause him to redirect his frustrations out on you or Petunia.

After she is spayed, it takes about a month for her hormones to dissipate. Don’t worry, the spay won’t change her personality . The only thing Luna did differently after the spay was that she didn’t zoom around nearly as much as she did prior to the spay. But I learned that it was likely due to her age rather than the surgery (she was spayed right before she turned 3 years old).

That’s good to know! I think the hormones have definitely kicked in now, she has an endless amount of energy and is determined to get out of her side of the room and I’m pretty sure she now wants to maybe with Mr Buns. It’s going to be a long 5 weeks!
