Hey everyone. got a bonded pair of bunnys to hopefully be bugsy’s companions and I was wondering if this behavior is normal?

SO Knight a male French Lop, Is very calm most of the time and will come up to my hand smelling if I have treats. But don’t seem to move around much unless No Name (currently deciding the name) is scared upon which he will come close so she can bury her head under his. and when he has to poop and eat (Peeing is kinda a flip of a coin whether or not its in the litter box). That’s my concern with him. I do understand that I adopted them yesterday and they have been moved into two different cages (Small one, not really suitable for one yet alone two, which they were in until I finished their now home a big 2×6 two story condo). For her I am worried about the shyness. When meeting for the first time she would grunt and very forcefully shove my hand away with her nose when I tried petting her. Once we took her home she would hide under Knight most of the time getting scared if we came by, She allowed me to pet her a few times (Especially after carefully hand feeding a piece of a carrot) but she remains pretty scared and doesn’t leave Knights side much, I don’t know if this is what bonded bunny’s do or not, but wanted to ask. Also I would Like to note she was super calm when I had to grab her for switching cages, her eye’s weren’t bugged and heart felt normal (after holding her for a couple seconds) and she didn’t try to kick or lunged off of me when setting her down in the new cage.

Thanks for any and all help, I understand I need patience for this, Bugsy warmed up to me very quickly, But I do not expect that from these two, I am just wanted to make sure everything is okay and they are just adapting.

I agree that it sounds like they just need time to settle in. As long as the shyer one is eating and pooping ok, I wouldn’t worry. Also, its good that Knight is more comfortable around you. As a bonded pair, it will help her in trusting you if she sees Knight trusting you. I have read before though that with some pairs, it might end up with one bun seeking out his human more than the other bun. But its really too soon to tell right now, so it could go either way. Hopefully they will get more relaxed once they settle into their nice new condo you built for them .

Thanks for the input. and I do have a update. First they eat like crazy, I filled their hay rack last night and it was empty this morning, Second Knight is getting used to the cage I belive because he has been playing with the toys I gave them. Cooki (previously No Name) is moving around more for sure but will only let me pet her head once on occasion. And does occasionally grunt and shove my hand away but I think giving her a carrot by hand once a day has been helping
