I have two bunnies, Lily and Cocoa. They are 6 months old and are not spayed. I got my bunnies when they were 8 weeks old. When they were four months old Lily didn’t want to leave her cage. She has been doing it ever since. Cocoa also did it but when they were separated she stopped. I have bonded more with Cocoa since they were separated. She has come to the front of the cage when she sees me. Lily still stay in the back. She checks my hand to see if i have treats and then runs to the back of the cage. She is totally fine when she’s out of the cage. She licks my hands and sits on my lap. They are outdoor bunnies. The cage is raised off the ground so they are safe from and predators. They cant live inside. What can i do to help this?

Some bunnies don’t like their space being invaded. Even though it doesn’t sound like she’s being territorial and aggressive about it, she probably doesn’t enjoy having her space invaded. I guess the only suggestion I would have is to be more cautious when you approach her while she’s in the cage. Try not to go at her from the front, as that is known as their blind spot. So instead let her know you are their by approaching her from the side, where her eyes are.

I always make sure she knows I’m there. I do come from the side where she can see me. What can i do to get her out of the cage? If she wont come out she would just end up sitting in there all day. They have a pen in the backyard where i let them out to play. I also let them run around the bathroom since its tile and they cant get into trouble like they could if they were loose.

You can try to get her when she’s in her litter box. Bombur has trouble getting in his cage (not out of it, go figure) and I always coax him to one of the play time litter boxes to transport him back. So you could try the same with her. Coax her with a treat to her box and then pick up the box with her in it. The hubs and I call it the bunny elevator.

I tried that idea when it first started but she kept trying to jump out. They have a stroller, would that work? I would have to go through the grass which would be bumpy for the

That could work. I know it would be a pain, but you could you move the cage to the pen to let her in and out?

The cage takes two people to lift it so i couldn’t move it. The cage has legs build onto it so i couldn’t lower it for her to jump out. I would still have to lift to her out of the cage to set her in the stroller.

oh dear :/ I’m afraid I have no other suggestions, as most buns are rather fussy about being picked up. Maybe Muchelle will chime in, she usually gives good suggestions to seemingly impossible problems.

Okay, thanks anyways. Cocoa seems fine with being picked up. She realizes she’s about to be fed treats and get to run around so she is fine with it.
