My luck! It’s funny this had to happen a couple weeks before Rain’s neuter was scheduled. Anyways, the issue is that Rain has lost his perfect litter habits, and has started pooping territorial poops all over the house. My mom is flipping out, I’m stressed, and my bun is being a total jerk. Teenagers. Whoops, I’m one too. I think the hormones are setting in and everything, so he’s starting to excessively chin objects over and over again, and pooping near them too. That’s what he spends his entire day doing now. Chinning, pooping, and then sleeping for hours. I can’t be trailing after him for hours and picking up all his poops. I calculated that in three minutes, he drops ten poops around a room. I had to lock him in a small room and stayed with him picking up his poops. He also makes these really weird honking noises when he’s running around and chinning things. Not when he’s grooming, sitting down, or sleeping. Just whenever he’s walking around. It’s so weird. And his attitude towards everyone has changed. He ignores us, and walks away from me when I try to pet him. He goes upstairs and just sits there all day long, stretched out on the ground. The only time he comes away from there is when he wants to eat, or when he does his usual rounds around the house of chinning and pooping. He used to be so sweet and nice to everyone and now he just acts like I’m his food dispenser, and everyone else doesn’t exist. I was going to schedule his neuter for Spring Break, but it seems it may have to be sooner. How do I take care of him during his week of pain when I’m at school and the only one at home is my mom who doesn’t want to go near him at all? I’ll be moving him to my room during that week so that he won’t be bothered. How long does it usually take for rabbits to bounce back to normal? And what do I do about his pooping? Should I just get a dog pen and keep him in a limited space until his neuter? I’m so stressed. I don’t know what to do.

Note: There’s fifteen days until his scheduled neuter.

A large xpen for the next few weeks might be helpful. Hes likely to go through a hormonal spike sometime after his neuter so the pen will help in that case too

But I want to add one thing since your mom is having such a crazy expectation about poop. Ive not met a rabbit who doesnt leave atleast one stray poop per day around their cage/pen/room/house. Theres a chance his litter habits will return to normal after a month or few, but theres also a chance he might leave some stray poops around. Chinning happens in neutered/spayed rabbits pretty often too. Would your mom be ok with that if he continues free roam?

He’s never been completely free roam, due to dangerous areas around the house, but has about ten hours outside every day. Ofcourse, he had always left a couple stray poos out before, but never completely lost control like he did now, and my mom has always been okay with that. She just doesn’t want him out of his cage if he’s going to be pooping everywhere. I told her there’s no way I can keep him from going to a different room without us gating him in to the kitchen (she doesn’t want him in carpeted areas because if he poops or pees there you can’t see it) I’m thinking of giving him just the guest room or maybe blocking off the the rest of the house from the kitchen until he gets back to normal. He’s a pretty territorial rabbit, and always will be, so I think that’s why he just chins a lot. I might just replace his cage with a pen. Thanks Mikey for the advice!
Does anyone know about the soft continuous honking noises?

The honking is one way a bun says “I’m hormonal.” If he starts circling you, he is courting you . I miss Luna’s honking and circling; it was so cute!

Oh my lord, I didn’t know a rabbit would try to court their human!!! Good news, my dad scheduled his appointment and neuter or spay. I still don’t see any testicles and if he’s already getting hormonal then it might be that he’s a she. Or a he without his parts. He’s so adorable. It’s like a little duck.

Be careful when he circles you, when Alfie was hit with hormones that always ended with a big pee spray!

Also, worth noting I hadn’t seen Alfie’s testicles a week before his neuter which had me very nervous about him being a she and that would mess up the neutering or whatever. I took him to the vet for a pre op visit and while the vet was handling him it was VERY easy to tell that he was a boy. You might just not have seen them yet, even if they have descended, Rain might just be hiding them from you.

But usually when they are running around and everything you can see something pink poking out underneath. That’s the case with my neighbors unneutered male. Or maybe he just can’t find the energy to put up a fight against people anymore. I don’t know if his fur would be able to hide it that well. What are some signs to look for them? I made him stand up by putting treats in my hand and while he ate his pellets standing up, I checked down under and all I saw was his legs and stomach. Maybe he’s a late bloomer. What happens if he’s a male and never ever descends his testicles? Would they still operate on him safely? If they can’t im afraid I wouldn’t be able to keep him anymore which would be heartbreaking if that was the case.

Apparently he’s in love with the washing machine. He sprayed it. And honked at it. After that incident I had to lock him up in his cage for the entire day. I feel terrible. I headed out today to find a dog pen and found nothing. Im going to order one, but until then, he can’t come out of his cage. Or my mom will get rid of him. Hopefully it won’t take too long.

Unless they’re extremely oversized, you won’t necessarily be able to see his testicles when he’s just running around. I never saw my boy’s testicles but the vet obviously saw them when he checked him over

You can’t keep your rabbit locked in a cage all day just because he’s hormonal. And I can’t believe your parents have said they want to get rid of him…again. Of course he’s going to exhibit some hormonal behaviours, that’s part of him growing up. What exactly do they expect? I really hope you’re able to get a pen for him. And quick. Because keeping him cooped up is completely unfair and unacceptable.

Oh. Hopefullly he does have them then.

I ordered a dog pen for him (It’s 16 sq feet in area) and it’s coming in two days. Until then, I’m giving him short ten minute breaks out of his cage every thirty minutes. Just to decrease the amount of poops and pee puddles. I think they have every right to say what they did, even if it doesn’t make me or you happy. They did just gather up a lot of money to buy our family this new house, and now an animal’s going around and ruining all of their hard work. And nobody just automatically knows everything about rabbits even after doing research. My parents are doing everything they can to help him and understand them. I appreciate that you’re trying to help, but it could be done in a much less attacking way.

I don’t mean to be rude towards you, it’s obvious you’re doing the best you can but it’s one thing for them to want to take care of their house. It’s another to threaten to get rid of an animal for behaving like an animal. They should have thought about all of that before allowing a bunny in their household instead of having such unrealistic expectations. They’ve got to realise that he doesn’t understand he’s doing things he shouldn’t, he doesn’t mean to upset or anger anyone. He’s just being a rabbit

I don’t want to ignore your threads but I think it’s best I head out when you mention your parents being unsupportive, it’ll just frustrate me.

It’s alright. I think it’s best if you do that too, as I don’t want you to feel frustrated at anyone. I still greatly appreciate your help though.
