Rains poops were half the size of his normal ones. They were also really dark, like black. And he had five poops (maybe more) lying around the house today. He’s always been so perfectly litter trained, yet today he had accidents. The only changes recently was that he had to go without his normal hay for a day, but even then, his poops were perfectly fine. Today he ate everything like normal, but was really lazy. He kept lying around stretched out all the time, except for when he had to go in his cage to eat and drink. He was excited for food as always. He even ate ALL of his hay today when I came back from school. It was all gone. Usually there is still some left. He frequently went back in his cage to eat hay. Like every thirty minutes or so. I gave him his normal diet today, but maybe I should stick with hay and water for tomorrow until he gets better? Also he’s not shedding. Nor fur comes out when I pull on it and his water bowl was nice and clean today. What might be going on with him? What should I do? I’m super worried because they have gotten even smaller at the end of the day

If he’s still eating tons of hay, I wouldn’t worry too much, just keep a close eye on him. Occasionally I think they do just have a deformed poop and it doesn’t mean anything, as long as all other signs are okay

Maybe because he ran out of hay whilst you were at school, he had to go a little while without any and thus that led to small poops?

Sirius&Luna, yes, buns do get weird little boughts of poos sometimes. He has had plenty of times when there’s something strange coming out, but he’s been always fine.
sarahthegemini, That could be it. I’ve never seen him love his hay so much before! This was the same hay I got him last week, but he’s eating it a lot more than he did before. I probably thought that he would just not eat much like usual, but I saw yesterday that he finished a big pile within a couple hours! But even after I refilled the hay and everything, there was still small black poos. I looked this morning and it looked as if they were bigger and slightly lighter. Does it that much time for him to go back on track?

And what could be causing the accidents? Even around his cage, there is a lot of poops lying around. Usually, they are all in his litter box. Is it because he needs to get neutered now, or could there be another issue?

Well it would take a few hours I would have thought for the hay to go through his system so his poops would be small for a while even after devouring a pile of hay.

Hmm, that’s true, it does take things a while to go through. They are still small and black today. And a lot of accidents. I don’t know what’s wrong with him. Today he was trying to climb the stairs, and there is a wooden one at the bottom, and usually he jumps right over it and runs up the stairs in seconds. Today he kept slipping and flipping over when he tried to climb the wooden stair. He actually fell over. He seems okay right now, and I don’t think anything’s broken, but he’s still just lying around. That’s all he’s been doing the past two days. Lying around, but not hunched or grinding his teeth.

That does sound a bit worrying. I wonder if he has an ear infection or something throwing off his balance? What’s the rest of his walking like? Has he been shaking his head or anything?

He does scratch at his ear, but I thought that was just normal rabbit grooming. If his eating is fine, but his poop isn’t, I don’t know what’s wrong. What type of shaking? He does a lot of head binkies when I’m near him, like when I kiss him or race him downstairs to the treats. That’s all the head shaking that I see. His walking is normal, and there is no head tilt. He has pretty short ears, though. I check them every day and his look pretty clear.

There was some mishapen ones too today. And they looked weird and shiny. Could this be the onset of GI Stasis? I don’t think so, because he eats like a horse, literally, and I don’t think stasis would make a bunny eat more, because usually they just stop eating at all. Most of them are perfectly round. It’s just the size and shape I’m concerned about. The inside of the poop is normal too, and has the hay particles and everything.

The shiny ones are the cecotropes. Normally the bunnies eat them and you never see them. They are normal.

Yes, but cecotropes are the grape like ones. This was a normal poop size and shape, but looked kind of glossy. I’m thinking that it was a territorial poop. I’ll keep watch on his poops, but I don’t know if I should schedule a vet appointment yet. I have to do one anyways soon because I’m getting ready to get Rain fixed. But I don’t know if I’m just over reacting, but it looks like his poops are just getting smaller. I don’t know, he could be constipated. Does anyone have any experience with their rabbit having this happen or know what could be wrong with Rain?
