Pablo is 4 months, not yet neutered, male Holland lop. He’s litter box trained and really good unless he’s on the sofa! He pees on it at least weekly. It makes me so angry but I don’t know what to do about it. I’m getting to the point where I’m not going to let him up anymore but I love having him with me on the sofa. I put him in his cage immediately when he does it but he doesn’t care. Suggestions?!

Putting him in his cage won’t do anything. They don’t connect that they are being punished. Bunnies pee on soft things. The couch is soft, so he is likely to pee on it. You can transfer him to his litter box when you see his bum arch upwards, but there’s nothing you can really do about it.

RIP my sofa cover. One year in and while Wick is good with the litter box, he’ll pee on the sofa when he’s waking up after sleeping on it or when he’s mad at me. Do the best you can to enact the litter box transfer. Sometimes putting fabrics that smell like the rabbit on the sofa may minimize peeing on it, since they’ll think it already smells like them (I already marked this, so now I can just relax on it). They like to mark soft things to claim them as their own for safety and an extra feeling of security (no other rabbits will claim it since it smells like them).

Great point @Wick! I think the same has happened to me… XD Sam has marked most of the cushions now which seems to have coincided with him not peeing on the sofa anymore ;p Out of interest, how would you know when fabrics sufficiently smell like them? Would it be good enough to put the blanket/towel/whatever inside their cage for a few days?

Wick’s futon cloth was something he slept on for a while, and he also peed on it, which I never washed out, haha. For Wick, he seemed to smell himself right away. On the normal futon cover, he’d walk and sniff it for a couple steps, but on his futon cloth, he’d sniff and stop because it smelled like him, is my assumption.
