For the 3-4 days, Asriel has been constantly drinking water and literally had a pool of urine in his litter box after 2 days. He doesn’t have the incontinence that Bombur does, but he is presenting the other two symptoms. I called my vet today, but she’s out due to the holiday. She knows the whole situation and I was told to call her if Asriel was presenting any symptoms. The vet on call want me to bring him in to rule out urinary infection or bladder stones. The vet tech was weirded out by the fact that I turned down their offer of scheduling an appointment. I just don’t feel an appointment is needed because it’s literally the exact same thing Bombur has been dealing with. Anyone else think it’s strange that I’d rather talk to my actual vet where she’ll just prescribe me the EC meds?

It’s difficult to say. The decision was made, so regardless action will be taken on your part, which is responsible.

One could argue it’s confirmation bias to so immediately rule out a UTI/bladder stones because it coincides with symptoms you’ve already seen. It happens to everyone though. When Wick is a turd and pees out of his box, my first thought is always teeth, when in reality sometimes he’s just being a jerk. As you know, symptom-ology in rabbits are very overlapping, so assuming to know the diagnoses right off the bat is not the best approach, even if you are correct in your assumption.

It’s easy to see how Asriel’s symptoms match Bombur’s, but those symptoms are also not exclusive to EC obviously, so I can understand the vet tech’s reaction.

I’m sorry Asriel is not well too now! What a month.

It could just be that EC is on your mind, but if your actual vet is only away for a day, you might as well wait to see her. I think it probably is still worth ruling out other causes though.

Not at all. I prefer to see my regular vet, and there is nothing wrong with that (Unless of course if it really is an emergency).

I am sorry Asriel isn’t well — sending healing vibes!

Id prefer to wait and see my own vet rather than going to another one, if it’s sth that can wait. Perhaps your vet will also want to rule out other things first, but she’ll of course tell you that when you see her.

I’m very sorry to hear that Asriel isn’t well.

Thanks guys! It’s good to know other people would stick with their vet too.
S&L: I think you may be right. I’ve been dealing with Bombur’s issues the past month that I’ve probably developed EC vision xD
I’m now wondering if it could actually be molt related? Asriel hasn’t molted since about August/September, and today I noticed his molt line looked really odd, so I started plucking. Literally tons of fur came out. I felt like I could make a whole new bunny. He only drank and peed excessively between Thursday and Sunday. Today he drank his normal amount.

I hope he is doing better by now. I can definitely understand wanting to stick to the same vet, but I kind of hope she doesn’t prescribe the same meds without examining him, since there’s a chance he could have something completely different, or even be healthy.

Sorry to hear about Asriel, hopefully it won’t be EC related and diagnosed soon <3 hugs. If it was just a day then I would have done the same thing and wanted to see my own vet who had a good familiarity with my buns.

I’m interested to know what’s his “normal” amount and what you mean by constantly drinking – like literally?

For both boys, normal is about 16-20oz which is 1-1.25 bowls full a day. During those few days Asriel was drinking about 32-40oz. I usually clean their litter boxes twice a week, but he peed so much it was a pool after 2 days. Like I said, I’m wondering if his body was trying to push through any fur he ingested.

Sorry to hear Asriel’s feeling under the weather too! Hope you get it sorted out and that it does turn out to be something else.

I was interested to see the figures you cite for daily water consumption. In six months, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen Panda and Fernando empty their water bowl, which is quite large (a 4-cup dog dish). They’re quite small rabbits, to be sure, which means they don’t require as much water daily in proportionate terms, and also it has to be factored in that they get wetted-down greens every day which accounts for a large portion of their water needs.

I’m pretty sure their bowls are 2 cups. I’ll have to measure when I get home, but I know it’s larger than 1 cup. They don’t really drink much during the day. They tend to drink the most between 6pm-5am. I really noticed something different on Saturday morning. I had filled their water up at 2am and when I woke up at 9, Asriel’s bowl was down to an inch of water. At first I thought I had forgotten to fill it up, but when I checked the water bottle I use to fill their dishes, it was where it always is when I fill both dishes. I gave him more water, and by 6pm the bowl was almost gone again.
