We are planning a move in the summer, across the country. It will take several day with long hours in the car, I know bunnies typically don’t like car rides (mine clearly don’t) so what are my best options? I’ve found information on shorter car rides but no luck on a move like this. The goal is to cause as little stress as possible on them, but for us humans our best option for the move is driving. Now we do have a trusted a reliable place here that I can ask to house them for a bit while we all drive down and then I come back for them to either drive back straight through (no hotels) or, if money is available, fly them back, or do a lot of stops during the drive for them to have time out of the cages. I just don’t know how to make this move easier on the buns.

Personally, I think driving may be better than flying. I have never flown with a bunny but depends on the airline they likely could not fly in the cabin. The main issue is that many bunnies will not eat while driving–though they may after a bit if they get more comfortable–so you will need to stop around every two hours unless you are sure they are consuming food and water while driving. How far is where you are moving?

We are moving from Pennsylvania to Arizona, it’s going to be at least a 3 day drive if we go straight through. I’m considering finding someone to bunny sit while we drive down and then I’d come back to take a longer drive with all the stops for them, but again I’d need to make sure I had to money set aside for all this. The goal is to get them down there with little stress while also being financially responsible.

Someone asked a similar question recently, and unfortunately didn’t get many responses either – I guess it’s something not many people have experience of. I wrote down a few things that I’ve seen recommended before, or that made sense to me.

Might be worth checking out that thread, and also leaving a comment so you get notified if the OP comes back after the journey with any tips themselves
