        First issue,

I recently got a female bunny of unknown age and breed, I rescued her from horrid conditions. She was living in a cardboard box barely larger than herself bottomed with newspaper. I have named her Oreo, she has been the sweetest bun, full of snuggles and loves to binky and climb all over me when I lay on the floor of my bunny room. She started charging at me the other day while oinking when it was time to go back into her hutch, today after being on bunny hop time for several hours she bit me when it was time to put her back in her cage. I know having her spayed would solve some of the aggression problems but until I can get her in is there any suggestions for trying to train her out of the behavior? She is usually a very sweet girl who loves to be close to Spot (The male I am gradually bonding her with).

        Second issue,

Spot is my 2 year old neutered male, he has been fully litter trained since I got him when he was 7 months old, for the past couple months he will not urinate in his litter box. He will not go on the floor when he is on bunny hop time but as soon as he is locked in his hutch he urinates on the floor of it. His litter box is big enough for him to stretch out in and has never had issues before. This behavior started before I brought Oreo home.

Thanks for rescuing Oreo! It sounds like she doesn’t like being put in her hutch, which is understandable, but still annoying! How big is the hutch? When she bites, give a high pitched squeal so she knows it hurt you. You can also try associating the hutch with something positive – I always give my bunnies their veg portion when they go back in after running around – in fact, I just need to put their veg in, and they go running in by themselves.

Have you changed anything about Spot’s litter box? Can you move it to the spot where he’s peeing? it is strange that it started before Oreo, as my initial thought was that its a territorial thing.

I know you didn’t ask for advice on bonding, but most people here would advise not bonding until both rabbits are spayed or neutered – as you’ve seen yourself, unspayed rabbits can be quite unpredictable and aggressive, and if she turned on Spot, it could end in a fight that would make the eventual bonding harder.

Actually they are doing very well together for the bonding, Oreo is generally a total sweetheart and Spot is a turd but within 24 hours of being near each other Soot stopped fighting the bars where Oreo didnt acknowledge him.

I read a post somewhere that gave me the idea that Spot peeing out of the box might have to do with being switched to orchard hay. his litter box is big enough for him to stretch out in comfortably but maybe he is just hanging out eating when it happens for all i know, he is a spiteful turd but still my baby.

As for Oreo, I only feed them in their hutches, hers is a large cage but they have a whole room but until they are bonded they arent getting free range of the bunny room. I also give a treat when my buns go into their cages without a fight, of course now when you say “Good girl” Oreo automatically jumps in her litter box LOL

Took me 24 hours to fully litter train her, such a personality.
