        Hi all,

Have Sam booked in for a vet appt on Friday but think I’m being a slight hypochondriac.

Lately he has been sneezing maybe 5+ times a day, doesn’t seem to be in response to hay, no nasal discharge, acting otherwise completely fine.

Ive seen here on the forums that some buns do just sneeze sometimes, but wondering what would be considered a “normal” amount.

Bombur has allergies to the trees in our area, so he sneezes anywhere between 5-10 times a day. It was the worst in the fall. We give him children’s Benadryl when we notice it’s a bit of an issue. Asriel only sneezes when his snoot is buried in hay xD
          Maybe Sam could have allergies?

Before going to the vet, Wick was sneezing about once every fifteen minutes at the mininum. Five times a day does seem more allergy based, but if it gets worse, that’s a more apparent sign of a URI getting worse.

Hmm, I have been cracking the window a little more lately & he had his first explore outside on the balcony over the weekend, but not sure what could be an indication of allergies. He’s been indoors with the windows closed for the past couple of days & still sneezing. I’ve never seen him sneeze more than once in a row, just the odd one, but fairly frequent.

I guess there is never any harm in taking him to the vet to be sure, though he went to recently for a check-up & it already costs me £25 on taxi fares just getting there! I hate that money has to be a factor in wondering whether to get a potential health issue checked out

Maybe I ought to cancel the appointment for now, & just keep a close eye on him…? I’d never forgive myself if it was the beginnings of a URI though.

If it starts to get really out of hand and he starts sneezing like 5 times in a row or sneezes multiple times in an hour, then I think you should take him. I think for now just monitor him and see how he’s doing.

Garf does every now and again? Mainly when he’s under the sofa and it’s a little dusty haha we have wooden floors and in grade 2 listed house so dust is ALWAYS about. I would just keep an eye on him if I were you, if he’s eating/drinking/etc and no discharge I’m sure he’ll be ok

Cool, I cancelled the vets & just going to keep a very close eye. I did an extra thorough vaccuum yesterday & cleaned out his cage too – no sneezes today so far! <3

Just an update for anyone who wanted to know

Finally took him to the vets cause the sneezing got worse & he had some eye discharge.

Been given some metacam on a low dose as an anti-inflammatory, & the vet suggested changing his hay for a week or so in case it is allergy related (@Wick, I recently purchased the Oxbow compressed stacks upon your recommendation so will try him with those!).

Fingers crossed he’s alright from now

I hope he likes the hay stacks! Someone recently tagged me on Instagram saying they were successful with the stacks, so hopefully it helps Sam! There will be a dust puff when you break a stack, but outside of that it’s very manageable.

I also hope it’s an allergy and Sam stops sneezing soon!
