The people we live with gave us a 40 pound bag of wood stove pellets to use as litter. I’ve checked to see if there was anything besides wood in them, and there doesn’t look to be, but it does say not intended for animal consumption. Thoughts?

This would help so much with Bombur’s chronic incontinence. Right now they both have the Ware jumbo litter boxes with grate, but Bombur really needs a litter box that’s long so if he pees on the side he’ll still be peeing in his litter box. I was going to get the BB store large box with screen, and I see that it won’t work with Carefresh (what we currently use). So I’m really hoping they are useable.

I’ve always been told that wood stove pellets are fine! I use equine pellets, which are also like super duper cheap. So if you have a farm supply store near you, definitely look into those! I used to use carefresh and I’m so glad I found these pellets, they are great!

Phew! good to know! Does it stick to the bottom of the litter box like Carefresh? I sincerely hate litter box days and having to dig at the cemented Carefresh and pee mixture to get it off.

I love wood stove pellets! They absorb urine and smell so well. I change litter boxes twice a week.
              And no it doesn’t stick!

Nope, that’s why its awesome! The ones I use are compressed pine pellets. When they get peed on, it kinda breaks down as it expands. When I change the box out, I just dump it out and give it a quick wipe with vinegar and it’s pristine again! Love that stuff… I hated the soppy pee carefresh!! I think the pelleted litter also makes it easier for Ophelia to keep her feet clean. That and the fact that she only goes potty in one corner of her tray

Wood stove pellets are great! I use them exclusively.

Around here in the Northeast you can get them at home Depot/ Lowe’s in the winter. In the summer they can be found at agway or tractor supply

For cleaning I just spot scoop once a day and dump and rinse with vinegar once a week. Super easy, non smelly and the vinegar takes pee stains right off
