So my 9 month old lop has been going through GI Stasis since friday. I took him to the ER twice and after the second time they told me to start him on critical care. He was eating on his own but wasn’t pooping and they said the CC will help make him poop, so that’s why he’s been on it. He’s finally started to get back to pooping more today and I’m going to start him back on his veggies. He’s still had unlimited hay and water (I’ve been having to syringe feed water since he isn’t willingly drinking from his bowl). My question is how long do I keep feeding him critical care? I read that once the bunny starts eating on his own to reduce CC but since he was started on it to poop and not because he wasn’t eating I’m not sure how long to keep him on it. I’ve been feeding him every 2-3 hours for the last 18 hours or so.

I’d say keep him on it until he is pooping normally again. The important thing with Stasis is to keep them eating. So you want to be feeding him anything. To help with water, soak the greens first that way he’s getting an adequate amount of water.

In between CC feedings offer him food and check that he keeps eating consistently. If you see he’s really interested in his regular food, you can lower the dose of CC you’re admininstering. I like to go down slowly at about 1/3 less per step while the bun is transitioning back to normal food, if the bun relapses to no interest or little interest in food, I go back up to full dose. Ideally once you start scaling down the CC dose, the bun should eat more and more of his solid food since he’s feeling the hunger come back ^^
