Hi guys- Just wanted to know if anyone out there has had any experience with bonding a female young bun to an older bun before? I know they say age does not matter and I do believe it.  I have a 9 week old female Petunia sharing an entire guess room with a 5 year old Mr Buns- I have the room setup below in the photo and I am seeing positive behavior. Mr Buns seems to enjoy lying as close as he can to Ms Petunia- I do have it double fenced so he cannot nip her which he has appeared to do once or twice. I am waiting for her to be spayed before going full tilt on the bonding process (bunny dates, car rides- bathtub dinner dates ect) but would this type of behavior in the photos be considered pre-bonding and is this positive? He has tried to jump into her enclosure once or twice and the one time I let him in to explore her side while letting her explore his side and he did interact with her and gave her a kiss on the head then proceeded into her litter box. I thought this was great! Then Ms Petunia SOMEHOW managed to squeeze through an escape during the night and Mr Buns expressed his displeasure of the intrusion with thumping. There was no fur ripped but Petunia was pretty spooked- I have no idea how long she was on “his turf” for but I went barreling in as soon as I hear the first thump. I did secure the enclosure to make sure we have no future mishaps. Is there anything else I can do to make it a more smooth transition when it is time or should I keep them apart completely. Side note- have only had Petunia for one week. Mr Buns lost his previous mate- Cinni about 2 weeks ago.

        Thanks!!!

Hi Manda! It seems to me that Mr Buns has a crush…??
I think that what you’re doing is great! But I don’t think there is anything else you can do. It seems like they are getting along fine for now, and that’s a good sign. Hope everything works out!! Plz let me know how the spaying and bonding works out!

Thanks BunnyBuzz! I went to the vets today for Petunia’s first checkup and she was given a clean bill of health I am so happy. The vet said I could start letting them interact. I started last night with very small interactions. As in the whole “date” started at 5 minutes. Whether or not this will help I don’t know but I would love for them to live together ASAP. I am waiting to hear back as to when we can book her in for her spay possibly next month or April. I know a lot of people are saying 8 months but my vet does not agree and he has done several bunnies successfully.

Manda, That’s great!!! Yes I don’t think 8 months is needed, it really depends on the bunny and when they come of age. It can for sure be 8 months but sometimes it is much sooner

The feeling you have when you know your bun is healthy is one of the best feelings I have had. I hope the bonding goes well! Please let me know

I am so relieved- my anxiety is finally gone and I am really starting to enjoy them both again instead of worrying. So when I clean I take down the fencing and kind of “swap” referee so each bun can get used to the smells- turns out Mr Buns really is smitten- he’s ready to bond with her and she seems to reciprocate however she seems to want to be chased- she runs up to him and then runs away as fast as she can and she gives off this vibe she’s excited not scared. He’s done nothing except try to groom her and a few I’m the boss nips..I feel like I’ve kinda done things a bit backwards but when I’m cleaning their areas and supervising they basically act like half bonded bunnies and ignore each other. There hasn’t been any humping either which I am trying to prevent because I don’t want to risk her thinking she’s pregnant at 10 weeks old which is a far stretch but I dont want to risk it. I think it might be best ti wait for them to “live together” full time until after she is spayed?
