My rabbit Brian was neutered a week ago, he bounced back quick and is eager to start moving throughout the house as usual. Since we started letting him he has become destructive; digging, pulling the carpet (it a mess) and less affectionate. Before the neuter he never touched the carpet and rarely tried to dig. He doesn’t want to be pet and doesn’t sit next to us anymore.

I’m hoping this behavior goes away, anyone else have a similar experience?

        UPDATE:

It’s been about 3ish weeks and his behavior has started to get better. The second week we started giving him complete freedom, he only uses his cage for the bathroom. Since doing this he hasn’t been chewing the carpet as much and is back to following us around and cuddling.

Thank you to everyone for your advice!

Bunnies often go through a post neuter craze which basically means their hormones go a bit crazy for a while before they settle. It’s totally normal and should settle down soon

Yep. Exactly as Sarah says. This is a phase and completely normal post-neuter behavior.

It may be best to confine him to a smaller area for a while so he won’t tear down the house around you. Provide things he can destroy to his heart’s content, and it’ll blow over soon.

Wick was a total jerk to his other parent for a solid month after his neuter. It will pass, so do your best to be patient and loving. Remember he’s a slave to his spiking hormones, so he can’t control himself very well.

Sadly my bunny Theodore has not changed back to his old self. I think he was neutered about six weeks ago. I don’t blame the neuter as much as the bonding. But he has been impossible to potty train and continues to yank out carpet.

One of our rabbits, Buster is exactly the same. He wasn’t exactly the most social bunny to begin with and didn’t like being touched but would come and spend time with us. Now about 3 months after he was neutered he chews everything in sight and completely destroyed a carpet whilst we were out. I guess some rabbits are just moody!
