Does anyone in the Boston area know anywhere that does bunny sitting? The hubs and I are going on a much needed week long vacation to the Bahamas in May, and will need the buns watched for about a week. His aunt has offered, but I don’t think she totally understands what she would be getting into. I also would like somewhere with a good reputation, as Bombur is a bit of a sickly bun and even leaving him makes me feel guilty. But, anywho. Bunny sitting suggestions somewhere between southern NH and southern MA. I live in Rowley, but the boys can stand being in a carrier for 1.5-2 hours. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Any chance A&B’s vet can board them for a week?

I tried that, and they apparently don’t offer it, which i thought was weird because they are an MSPCA vet.

Are there any rabbit breeders nearby? Some of the ones near me offer boarding services.

The problem with breeders here in MA is that all of the websites are old and outdated, and the ARBA website also has very outdated information. I’ve been met with a lot of unanswered emails, including from the breeder that I got the boys from. I’m also waiting to hear back on the their bonder situation, so I’m hoping I can maybe get that to line up.

Have you tried to contact the Massachusetts branch of the House Rabbit Society, or any rabbit rescues/sanctuaries in your area? If only you were in the DC area, there’d be no problem; Friends of Rabbits, whom I adopted Panda and Fernando from, does bunnysitting at daily and weekly rates.

That’s actually how I’m doing the bonding is through HRS. So that is actually a possibility. I just emailed them about bonding confirmation, but I’ll be *one of those people* and email about that after I get confirmation.

If you’re willing to drive a little further, Luna and I would be happy to bun sit…you just need to drive through NY, PA, OH, and a little north into Michigan . In all seriousness though , would you be more comfortable with the idea of his aunt bun sitting if she were more knowledgeable with buns and Asriel and Bombur’s daily routine? If you guys aren’t leaving until May, there could be enough time for her to learn more and to become more comfortable caring for them. Has she ever watched them before?

Lol absolutely, Luna! That’s not far at all
I would be, especially because she had bunnies when she was a kid (she’s only like 33). But when we’ve told her how they each need equal time out, and they need to be out of their cages and the amounts of food needed, she just sits there and nods. We currently live with them and rent out the second floor of their house. They already have 3 elderly pugs to take care of and a whole farm full of ducks, chicken, goats, and pigs. So I’m just really apprehensive because they already have so much to do, that I don’t want the boys falling to the wayside.

Ohhh, I agree, her already caring for all the other animals could definitely make things tricky when it comes down to Asriel and Bombur’s time.
