I just noticed my fuzzy lop has been losing his hair on the back of his neck and now it’s coming out on the sides too. Today I noticed this weird looking spot. Is this ring worm or mites or something else possibilities??

It’s hard to tell without a photo because fur loss around that area can be either one of those. Someone who has experienced ringworm (like Wick) could chime in and see if it looks like it. There are also plenty of people who’s buns have had mites, so those are easily identifiable. Would it be possible to post a picture?

When you look on the back of his neck, do you see anything that looks like dandruff? Mites have been describes as walking dandruff. When my boys had mites one of them had a never ending supply of dandruff in a few areas, and the other one just had scabs from scratching so much.

Click “Insert” after you attach the picture file to the post! It’s not an intuitive step, so a lot of people don’t do it. We’ll be able to see the picture then.

Thank you for letting me know!  Totally missed that.  Its weird b/c he doesnt have dandruff anywhere else, just this piece of flaky/crusty skin.  My bunny had mites when we got him from the feed store so I know what that looks like but this does not look like mites to me.  Maybe I’m wrong..

I see what looks like regrowth and then that little flaky spot.

If it is mites, it will get bigger. So I suggest you wait and see, if it’s not bothering him. It doesn’t look irritated.

It’s normal for buns to shed in patches. Some buns do that every time they shed (and look positively mangy while it’s going on), some just go through a patchy shed now and then. It’s still normal. Try to brush him often to get as much hair off as possible, to prevent him from ingesting it. You’ll also be able to keep a close eye on how the the flaky spot develops. If it gets bigger and/or more spots appear, if you see a lot of dandruff-like flakes, I’d say it’s mites.

Agreed. Monitoring how that flaky spot develops, if at all, will best indicate if this is anything. Initially this does not look like Wick’s ringworm, though his always began at the mouth, so the flakiness started on a different texture. Generally ringworm will expand out and out.
