        Hi!

I was just wondering if it’d be okay for my 11 week old bun to have some dry herbs mixed in with his hay? He is been picking about eating his hay lately, so I thought that it might be a good incentive to have a sprinkle of some yummy stuff mixed into his hay!

        Thank you!

Dry herbs should be fine, but do introduce them slowly just ti be safe

You could also try mixing in different types of hay (oat, meadow, timothy) and young buns (up to six months) can also have alfalfa hay which they normally love, so you could try that too.

If he’s eating too many pellets and ignoring hay, you might want to reduce his pellets a bit. While young bunnies can technically have ‘unlimited’ pellets, in practice that often means giving them a serving a couple of times a day – if they always have a full bowl of pellets, they often won’t bother to eat hay.

Introduce herbs in small quantities, one at a time, to see which ones he especially likes. Most green herbs are excellent for bunnies; check the House Rabbit Society’s recommendations list. My own like dandelion greens, cilantro, mint, sage, and sorrel (which I can’t seem to find around here); sage is a particular favorite and they haven’t had it in a few weeks so it’s time to get more this weekend.
