My little Nim is booked in to be neutered tomorrow morning!
I’m obviously terrified, but the vets are very competent and neutered Sirius and Atlas with no complications, and spayed Luna.
It’s just Nimbus is so tiny. Although, I weighed him last weekend, and he was just over a kilo and he’s over five months old. Which is about where Atlas was when he was neutered. The vets always keep them overnight with a nurse to get them eating properly too, so it’s good to know that he’ll be well taken care of.
He was a runt, but he seems to be pretty normal bun sized now… Is there anything extra to be aware of with runts?
Hard to believe Nim is old enough already
I should think you already know all there is so I’ll just send vibes for a speedy recovery! What time is he due at the vets tomorrow?
Haha yeah, I think I have the recovery part sorted. Although Nimbus is actually probably the least food-motivated bunny I’ve ever had, so I hope getting him eating again isn’t difficult.
He’s in at 9.40. My boyfriend is taking him in, so he will be given a strict list of instructions and questions ![]()
Wick’s a runt, hehe. Wick was definitely less than 1 kilo when he was neutered (he’s barely 1 kilo now), but he bounced back within the day. Wick did get neutered at 8mo, so he’s older than Nimbus, but he was also going through dental and URI stuff pretty early on, so I think it’s safe to equate them on health at this time point, to an extent. Wick’s vet does not keep neuters overnight, so he did very well with recovery on his own. I didn’t need to do any intervention. Wick’s vet openly expressed some surprise that Wick’s surgical site showed literally no swelling after the operation from irritation.
With runts, you just need to be considerate if you see they already have a history of difficult recovery. It may be hard to say now since this is probably Nimbus’ first major operation/medical intervention, but if he’s been pretty clean-slate clean since you’ve had him, I think that’s a fair sign that he still developed normally and will be able to handle the neuter as well as Atlas did.
Even as a runt, Wick does better than, like, all of Wick’s vet’s rabbit clients actually, in terms of anesthesia recovery. Wick has had his neuter, and six molar grindings, and always bounced back a few hours after the procedure. Maybe runts are more resilient to compensate for their size, haha.

Good luck little Nimbus! Hope everything goes well for him xxx
Thanks Wick, I was hoping you’d pop in! I’m glad to hear Wick recovered so well
Interesting that Wick is so good with anaesthetic – especially useful in his case!
Nimbus had descended testicles when we took him in for his first vaccination at 11 weeks, so I’m hopeful that he’s developed at a pretty normal rate. He hasn’t had any problems so far, and he’s actually grown bigger than the vet expected the first time I took him in (she said she didn’t think he’d make it to a kilo!).
I will double check that they think he’s in a good enough health (although of course they wouldn’t do it if they didn’t!)
Thanks Garfy <3
Good luck to you and little Nimbus <3 I'm sure he'll bounce back!
Such an early jewel developer! Wick’s were very late as you know, so I think secretly he’s glad they are gone. They threw off his hopping and walking because he didn’t know how to deal with the hanging appendages by his butt, haha. He crawled everywhere most of the time and took slight pauses after each hop, to check that he was okay and wasn’t falling over.
Seriously wished I recorded it back then.

Finn was 2 and half months when he was neutered and very tiny. They kept him in over night for observation costing me a whopping £250!
But he was fine – I am sure your little guy will be too 🙂
Good Luck!
Thanks A&B
And Wick, I wishhhhh you had got that on video. You’ve let us all down
But maybe you saved Wick’s pride…. haha.
Wow Emma, I’ve never heard of a neuter that early before. Luckily my overnight stay is covered in the £100 price ![]()
lmao he sure sprouted early XD
((((Nimbus))))
Bombur had descended at 7 weeks before we picked him up, but the vet didn’t want to operate until 4 months to make sure he was developing well overall. Asriel I think sprouted at 9 or 10 weeks.
Interesting this thread pops up because I was at the vets with Sam today & she advised he’d be good to go anytime from now. I’m still in 2 minds as he’s not exhibited any classic teenage bun behaviours yet. @S&L, was it a pretty straightforward decision with all of your boys?
I’m sure it’ll go well for Nimbus tomorrow especially as he’ll be watched overnight <3 sending vibes!

That was our concern was his age. We tried holding off until he was 3 months but he was so bad and appeared very stressed. He went through puberty at 2 months. As soon as he was neutered it was a release for him and he became so much better.
Hi Heaven,
I’ve neutered mine because I want to bond them. Nimbus hasn’t actually been spraying, but he does honk and get all humpy if he can smell one of the other bunnies ?
Atlas started spraying which was VERY annoying and gross.

My boy was neutered at 4 months and he didn’t show any hormonal signs. No spraying, humping stuff, honking. Nothing
In fact he’s probably naughtier now and he’s been neutered over a year ![]()
Good luck Nimbus! Sending happy snip (((vibes))) ![]()
Nimbus has been dropped off – weighing just over a kilo and perfectly healthy apparently. Expecting to hear from them this afternoon.
Good luck Nimbi!
You know that specsavers advert where the vet is trying to resuscitate a fluffy hat thinking it’s a cat? I can just imagine the vets trying to operate on a pom pom ball thinking it’s Nimbus ![]()
![]()
Haha maybe a cotton ball?
He seems to have developed a Trump hairstyle in the last week. Obviously some sort of teenage style rebellion.

TRUMBUS!!!! XD
I’d vote for Trumbus. #Trumbus2020
lmfao he’s got my vote! and first lady Luna ![]()
Haha and Atlas as VP? FLOTUS Luna
I actually don’t think I have any photos of the ridiculous hair. I need to work on that. I’ll see if the bf can send me any ![]()
Luna was born to be something with a lot of class. FLOTUS would suit her nicely.
Just had a call from the vet and Nimbus is coming round from the anaesthetic ‘really nicely’. They’re keeping him overnight as they always do, and will update me again in the morning
I know it’s unusual for vets to keep neuters overnight, but I find it so reassuring!
Mine kept them overnight. I was so glad she did. It gave me peace of mind.
Woo, go Nimbus ![]()
Just checked in and glad to hear it
let us know when you’ve got him. Well done Nimbus!
(((Nimbus)))
I’m sure he’ll breeze through the procedure like the tiny wisp of a cloud that he is ![]()
He did, although he’s a little swollen, apparently they were putting ice packs on him. Poor baby.
He seems totally normal now he’s home, and doesn’t look like he’s in pain. He’s not being tooooo bad about taking his medicine, but he’s such a little wriggler! He’s so small it’s hard to keep a grip on him. I can’t even burrito him without him running out ?
Naaw, glad to hear he’s ok! I remember Vienna’s Henry, he had like a prize-winning swelling after his neuter =(

Maybe you could try burrito-ing him with an actual tortilla wrap rather than a blanket…and then take photos ![]()
