So I have been thinking lately of getting a second bun to possibly accompany Charlie and maybe tone down her firey attitude with a chill playmate. Only problem is, (see other posts for the whole story) Charlie is unfixed, and never will be. Can I bond her with a unfixed female/ fixed male? Or is it impossible to bond unfixed buns? Any ideas would help! I probably most likely will still just stick with having one bun; (I can barely handle her sometimes! ) But just for the future!

Both buns need to be fixed to avoid that the hormonal behaviour of the unfixed one causes fights or excessive dominance between the buns. Rabbits don’t go easy on each other when they decide they want to fight, so I would definitely avoid the chance of flaring that up.

I agree with Muchelle. If she’s ever unable to be fixed, another bun in general could make her very territorial. If it’s another unfixed bun, they will feed off of each other’s hormonal behaviors and it won’t end well. If it’s a fixed bun, they could feed off of her hormonal urges and act out as such. Just in general, the fact that she has been a solo girl could make her very aggressive and defensive of her territory if you bring a new bun in, and that won’t die down because she isn’t able to be fixed. I would definitely keep her as a single. There’s too much uncertainty around it all.

Agree with the others but also, if she is unspayed and gets mounted (for dominance or because male is responding to her hormones) she may experience a false pregnancy. Possibly multiple times which would be very traumatic for her

There was another member a while ago that was going to try an unfixed female (who was too old to be spayed) with a fixed male. I didn’t think it was possible, but some of the forum leaders said it used to be a lot more common, before it was common to spay females.

Unfortunately the other member never got to the bonding part as his girl passed away (she was about 8).

It is more difficult, and problems can arise, but with the right match it might be possible….I definitely wouldn’t try with another unspayed female, but it might work with a spayed female or neutered male. It really depends on how territorial your girl is and what her personality is with other rabbits.

It’s not recommended overall, but it can be possible…. is there a rescue near you that could help you find a good match and could help out with bonding? I’ll try to find that other thread, it had a lot of input from forum leaders.

Here is that other thread! You will see my initial reaction of “no I don’t think so!” and then all the other leaders saying, “well actually maybe…. but it’s trickier!”

Okay! I will definitely keep that in mind! But I’m pretty sure she’s going to keep riding solo!
                    Thanks guys!
