Today I noticed that my bunny walks kinda weird and lifts its right front foot up when walking. It also seems to be hiding that foot when just sitting or lying around. I did accidentally drop her while holding her yesterday so I’m worried it might have been caused by that. She sometimes stumbles when trying to jump back into her cage too. Here are photos of her holding the leg up.

Should I take her to the vet for this?

        edit:

she puts the leg down but not completely

If you dropped her and she is now lifting her foot strangely when walking and holding it up when resting then yes of course you should take her to a vet..

              Update:

Vet did some feeling around then x-ray, the bone of her digits splintered and she got a cast put on the foot. Got some anti-inflammatory medicine and painkillers, will be bringing her back again in a week to change the bandage.

I’m glad she’s been properly seen to and treated. Some buns try to take off their cast, so keep an eye on that. She might need to wear a cone to prevent that from happening. Luckily, rabbits’ bones tend to heal well. We’d appreciate further updates.

Many good healing vibes for her! She’s a very pretty little girl.

Thanks, I’m really glad that I took her to the vet too. She’s been holding the leg up and “flicking” it from time to time but no biting fortunately!

Ah I am glad you took her to the vet. I remember when Finn hurt his leg while jumping out of my arms. They can be silly bunnies

I would assume within a few weeks she will be on the mend. Maybe make her living space a little smaller temporarily so she doesn’t use that leg to much. I did this with Finn for a faster healing process.

I took her to get her bandage changed today and the vet took another x-ray. They said that they couldn’t see any new growth and it’ll take maybe 4-6 weeks for it to recover. They mentioned that the bandage slipped quite a bit so they decided to extend it up past her elbow so that it’ll stay. They told me to change to a water bottle instead of a bowl because her bandage had gotten wet from stepping in the bowl and also to place some mats on the floor to prevent splaying. I’ve also stopped giving her the medicines because they were affecting her appetite and she seems fine without them.

GUYS it’s night-time now and she started pulling out her own fur at the part where the cast ends and chewing on it, I don’t know what to do!

                        update:

I threw fresh hay all over her and she started behaving normally again eating the hay and her pellets. Will check on her again tomorrow morning.

                        update again:
nevermind, she has continued pulling out her fur and eating it

You can make an e-collar of a small paper plate (the kind used for cake) or a scrunchy or something else that stops her from accessing her leg until you can get her a cone. If you have any painmeds/antiinflammatory med left, give that to her. She could be chewing because of pain, or just because she hates the cast. Painmeds can have a slightly sedative effect. Hopefully that can help make her lose interest in chewing.
Here are pictures of how to make a “cone” out of a paper plate. Never mind d the text, it’s in Swedish. And nevermind the fact that it’s a cat, not a rabbit wearing the plate:http://www.kattstatus.se/sida26.html

Thanks so much! I don’t have any paper plates so I just fed her the pain meds. I couldn’t get all of it into her but I’m hoping that it’ll be at least enough to calm her for a while. I’ll be going to sleep now and call up the vet when they open tomorrow. I’m guessing that she hates how the cast restricts more of her movement now since she didn’t chew it before and she doesn’t retract in pain when I touch or hold it.

Took her to the vet again and my dad came with me this time. I asked about giving her a cone but the vet said that it’s easily removed by a rabbit and my dad asked if she could go without a cast completely. We ended up just bringing her home without a cast (it had already dropped off when we reached the vet) and there’s a bald spot where she was pulling out her fur. Will be monitoring her and bring her back to the vet if anything new happens.

Buns can be terrible about these things =( I’m glad you saw the vet though and that they agreed she might be better off without the cast. This happens with a good nr of rabbits. Some rabbits will patiently wear their casts, but some won’t rest until they’ve removed the horrible, offensive thing.
