        So as some of you have probably read, Bandit was to the vet yesterday.
        He had x-rays which showed no blockages, just some poop up high that hadn’t come down yet. The vet prescribed him cisapride to get his gut moving better and metacam for any pain. He is still acting as though he has gas and his belly is still tight. I swear I heard the vet say there was gas in his belly on the x-ray, but when I called last and asked if I could give simethicone the vet we seen was gone and the other vet on duty said it was not necessary because there wasn’t gas in the belly on x-ray

        Can I still give him simethicone? He still seems to have a firm tummy and if this would help him clear the works I wouldn’t want to delay giving it to him.

        Today he’s still eating and drinking (he’s never stopped) he’s having hairy poos so I am pretty this coupled with the fact he sleeps from mid-morning to late afternoon without a bathroom trip (he’s always done this) is the cause for the sluggish belly.

          As far as I’m aware, simethicone doesn’t interact with other drugs, so is safe to give.

          According to the Dana Kimpels article: (http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/ileus.html)

          (liquid, pediatric suspension or tablets) is essential for the relief of gas pain which usually accompanies ileus. For relief of acute gas pain, 1-2 cc (20mg/ml suspension) can be given as often as every hour for three doses, then 1 cc every three to eight hours. This substance has no known drug interactions, is not absorbed through the intestinal lining and acts only on a mechanical principle: it changes the surface tension of the frothy gas bubbles in the gut, joining them into larger, easier-to-pass bubbles. Simethicone is practically inert, and is safe to give, even as a precaution, as long as it is not given long term. (Note: liquid suspensions of simethicone are relatively expensive. Less expensive versions, such as 125mg gel capsules are equally effective. A bunny can safely receive the contents of half a capsule at the rate described above.) A flatulent bunny is a happy bunny!

            Awesome!
            I will try giving him some. He seems brighter and hes eating pretty good. His poos are kind of wet and squishy and there isn’t a whole lot of them but I am seeing a few so I’ll take that as a good sign.

              Lexicomp Interaction Analysis also clears the two medications to have no interactions:

              “Drugs in this analysis: Cisapride; Simethicone

              No interactions of Risk Level A or greater identified.”

              A = No known interaction

              — All good!
