Nori, my 3yr old dutch rabbit, is the love of my life. She’s a little curious ball of love who loves being petted, follows you around and snuggling on your lap. The first things she did when I got her was binky and groom me, instantly trusting & loving me. I got Nori from my cousin who rescued her from somebody who didn’t have time for her, kept her caged up in a garage and fed her the wrong food like yogurt drops & sunflower seeds. Not too long after, I found out she had dental issues when she began to pee on my bed and it took a turn for the worst. She got one abscess on her chin and the vet lanced it, prescribed penicillin shots & metacam but was it turned out to be worse…….osteomyelitis.
She now has reoccurring accesses on her jaw on the left side due to osteomyelitis. Not only does she have osteomyelitis, she also often suffers from symptoms of GI stasis due to it being hard for her to eat. Nori has seen the vet at least four or five times last year for her problem(s). She just had her abscess drained out but the bone infection had gotten so bad that the vet encourages further surgeries involving aggressive antibiotic beads. I read that the beads don’t always work and plus my vet told me that she would have to continuously get procedures and have them changed. Because I am a full time student who is eating ramen everyday and Nori’s condition is reoccurring, it has taken a heavy financial and emotional toll on me. I have honestly spent so much on her last year and can barely get by now and of course I would be in financial troubles when this is happening. It feels like nothing will change and get better. I really don’t want to give her up. I don’t know what to do.
Does anyone have experiences with it? Was the beads effective? How are they doing now?
